Back in the day, we used to call that "Old Overcoat." Horrible stuff.

I actually find it one of the best values in whisky: perfectly decent at a very reasonable price. I prefer Bulleit rye, so haven't bought the Old Overholt in some time, but I wouldn't pass on an Old Overholt Manhattan if offered.

Anything being called "whisky" which needs to be mixed with more than a couple of drops of spring water to be palatable doesn't deserve the name. Or to be consumed. The name is nothing more than a marketing ploy. A transparent one.

Same some shekels. Buy the cheapest vodka on the shelf ... and some grapefruit or orange juice.

Maybe Kool-Aid.

Double Tavarski Vodka (160 proof) was my go to, get blasted in the pasted, cheap vodka.

Bulleit is a fave for Rye, Woodinville Rye is also good. For bourbon, I favor Maker's Mark.

It doesn't need it, but I the drink was originally made with rye, so I prefer to have manhattans made with rye. If I'm having a manhattan.

Old Overholt with a touch of spring water is perfectly fine.

Marked for reference. Will have to try it out. Just emptied my big bottle of Bulleit Rye.

I've been indulging in some local goodness lately because I am drinking far less often: Garrison Brothers and TX Single Barrel. More complex than Makers, but still on the sweet side of things.

Afraid not. And you'll get dinged by the moderators if you try to circumvent the autocensor. My suggestion is to swear like a trooper, and let the autocensor do its thing.

There's a workaround that lets you exploit the autocensor, and the rule isn't enforced when you do that.

Don't try it outside Community and Humor, though.

Welcome Gavin, looks like you're past the 50 post mark needed to have an avatar. You can also request a custom title in the thread linked below.

http://www.internationalskeptics.com...81#post1205681

While not required, offerings of chocolates and premium libations can often motivate the title pixies.

Welcome, everyone.

Welcome Gavin, Lupus, and all other new members!
Despite immediate appearances, we're not necessarily a bunch of drunks.
Just thought it was worth mentioning.

Be careful! If say "Bloody Mary" 3 times quickly you get a slap around the head and a voice says "Get it yourself, you lazy sod!". Someone suggested it might be my wife but she always starts conversations by asking "Are you even listening?". Just an odd little verbal tic I guess.

At first I though you misspelled "Dominic Cummings" but googling the name, Dom will have him in the Tower pretty fast.

Ah. Welcome to the forums, ericlawson2001. TBH, I hadn't heard of the King at all until you brought him up (and I googled your reference). If you wish to talk about him, we'd doubtless have an interesting discussion -- "we" as in here in these forums, not me personally. You can start a thread if you wish.

Lots of reading in this forum. Good.

Hello.
I just got the message at the top of the forum reminding me I hadn't posted since joining and should introduce myself. So, here I am. Originally my (late) wife was a member here way back in the day and I remember reading threads that she suggested and thought I'd find interesting. I registered again a couple of years back, but my recent reacquaintance is down to realising this was probably the best place to find discussion about COVID-19.
I'm interested in the content of most of the other subforums too (and will probably be more likely to post in those) but I feel I'm already benefitting from both the insight and back and forth about the Coronavirus compared to the mass media.
In any case, nice to be here again.
Andrew.

Welcome back Andrew (PPL). Sorry to hear about your wife passing. My girlfriend, Moebob, was quite active here but lately (since 2018) she just doesn't have any interest in the forum. While I don't indulge in the Coronavirus threads I do check 'em from time to time for any new relevant information. Hope to see you around.

Dan, thanks for the welcome.
I'm already enjoying reading some threads/topics on a number of subjects, and the Coronavirus thread is a good repository for uodates.
Thanks again.

Hello. I figured I would introduce myself. It feels strange to be posting here after about a decade (has it really been that long?). I used to (for a couple of years) be a somewhat infamous poster who went by the username Marshmallow. People thought I was a troll but I was just suffering from some intense, unmedicated OCD, combined with grief and PTSD. It was an extremely difficult time or my life. I was being abused by family members and my mental health and self-esteem were in the toilet.

I wonder if anyone here remembers me. I no longer believe the things I used to post about. In fact, I don't think I ever really believed them in the first place. It was the unfortunate "what if" side effect of OCD. It makes you doubt everything. They don't call it the doubting disease for nothing.

Oh, and for anyone who might remember me, I'm a lady and not a dude (a few people got that wrong IIRC )

I don't really expect anyone to remember me. It's been ten or eleven years. I don't even know if anyone from those days still posts here.

I used to often post about conspiracy theories that I was scared could have the remotest possibility of being true. I was in fight or flight mode from the abuse and I wasn't really thinking straight. I posted some incredibly silly and downright ludicrous things.

(Waves to everyone)

Not sure if I'll stick around or not. Just thought it might be somehow cathartic to revisit a forum I used to visit during a dark time of my life and remind myself how far I've come since then.

You may want to check in with the mods about reviving your old account. They are a bit strict about socks and I would rather you come back on a good foot so that you can enjoy your time here this time around. If that makes any sense.

I'll also echo Emily's Cat and say welcome back and I'm glad you are feeling better.

I've been there for my sister through bipolar disorder, and with my spouse through PTSD. Getting your brain to behave is a big challenge, and a really painful undertaking. I'm glad you've had success!

Hi Dr. Keith. I definitely hear ya. Unfortunately, it might not be possible to restore my old account because I haven't used my old e-mail address in years (if I'm not mistaken, I think microsoft deactivates inactive accounts after a certain time). Fingers crossed. Thanks so much for the welcome!

Emily's Cat, it sounds like you were super supportive to your sister and spouse which is awesome. Having a support network when facing mental illness of any type is so, so important. And it definitely was an intensely difficult challenge to get my brain to behave. It's still a struggle even now, but back then I could barely function.

Another poster (AmyW) has been posting this year about how OCD affects her and it was quite an eye-opener for someone who associates OCD with the Hollywood conventions of washing their hands 10 times or checking the locks etc. Welcome. Hope you're doing well.

Hello! My name is Kay. During quarantine, doing household chores, creating comfort, improving my fixing skills, I thought a lot about various things. Household chores for this process are fertile ground, because the hands are busy, but the mind is free. The first days I thought about what films to watch, but after a week I got tired of films. I'm not a movie buff. I went deep into reading, thought a lot about what I read. I recently found your forum and I think this is the perfect place to share my thoughts and discuss any issues.
