Like on AM radio of yesterday, "The hits just keep on comin'!"
Quote:
A summary of an intelligence briefing read to The New York Times said that Boeing, General Electric Aviation and T-Mobile were among the recent targets of Chinese industrial-espionage efforts. The companies all declined to discuss the threats, and it is not clear if any of the hacks were successful. Chinese cyberespionage cooled four years ago after President Barack Obama and President Xi Jinping of China reached a landmark deal to stop hacks meant to steal trade secrets...But the 2015 agreement appears to have been unofficially canceled amid the continuing trade tension between the United States and China, the intelligence officials and private security researchers said. Link

"My meeting in Argentina with President Xi of China was an extraordinary one," Trump said on Twitter. "Relations with China have taken a BIG leap forward! Very good things will happen."

Sad!

Sad!
Two possibilities here.
Either he doesn't know that the "big leap forward" he refers to was a catastrophe that killed millions... or he does.

Either option is unsettling at best.

I ask every member of the Maduro regime: End this nightmare of poverty, hunger and death. LET YOUR PEOPLE GO. Set your country free! Now is the time for all Venezuelan Patriots to act together, as one united people. Nothing could be better for the future of Venezuela!

The people of Venezuela are standing for FREEDOM and DEMOCRACY – and the United States of America is standing right by their side!

How many of them led to the President being sued, in the 9th Circuit, it shouldn't have been the 9th Circuit, the President knew the law better than anybody ever, shouldn't have been the 9th Circuit, got a bad result, very wrong, the President knew the law better than anybody ever, got sued again, more bad results, conspiracy, coup, Fake News, and is still going through the courts and Congress?

I hadn't realised this sort of event was so mundane in the US. Nothing to see, then, I guess.

Juche isn't socialism, it's transcendent, uncategorizable, uniquely Korean and thus superior to any other conceivable philosophy.

I guess I mean the one where there are hordes of Mexican MS-13 Muslim rapists swarming across the Rio Grande to murder sweet American babies and take all your jobs while voting for Hillary's emails so you need a 700-foot tall ICE-wall paid for out of Puerto Rican recovery funds. That National Emergency.

Has it gotten bad enough that he has to give up another round of omelettes golf in Florida?

Okay since it's become a topic of the 32 (or 36 depending on how you look a it) current National Emergencies in affect in the United States.

Almost all of them of them are sanctions, basically minor variations on "You can't buy, sell, or otherwise do business with" and/or freezing the assets of various governments and groups including but not limited to parts or all of; Iran, various terrorist groups, narcotics traffickers, Sudan, parts of the Western Balkans, Zimbabwe, Syria, Iraq, Belarus, the Congo, Lebanon, North Korea, Somalia, Libya, various criminal organizations, South Sudan, the Central African Republic, Venezuela, Cyber Terrorist, People involved in "Serious human rights violations," People involved in "interference with the United States election process," and Nicaragua.

Of the others one is about the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, one has to do with the invoking of maritime laws, another about export control on weapons and related systems, one declared in response to 9/11, and the development of an Iraqi legal fund.

And then there's Trump's wall.

The other four are not valid (since they have to be renewed annually by the President and these weren't) but never had an order officially revoking them and have to do with trading gold or silver with an enemy, the end of the Korean War, some complicated economic stuff about the value of the dollar, and a Postal Strike in the 1970s.

In addition to what was pointed out above, none of them were enacted by power-hungry, corrupt, incompetent, and Russia-compromised demagogues such as Trump.

Most of the National Emergencies still in effect involve "Blocking Property and Suspending Entry of Certain Persons" that are (or were) contributing to conflicts in Somalia, Yemen, Ukraine, South Sudan, etc. Obama enacted thirteen, Bush twelve. None are anything remotely close to what Trump is doing. Below is a link to a CNN news article that lists them all.

Unbelievable. Trump tweets (regarding Mueller):
Quote:
There is a lot of explaining to do to the millions of people who had just elected a president who they really like...
Millions of people, yes. But 2.9 million fewer than those who voted for his opponent. A president they really like? He's the most unpopular president in U.S. history. His approval rating has been under 50% and negative -- more disapproval than approval -- since his very first week in office, twenty-five long chaotic months ago. Yet somehow Donnie remains oblivious to all this. How does this not get through to him? How does he manage to block it all out?

The best I can come up with is that it's not about proportion, just absolute numbers. If he has 25% of voters supporting him, to him that's *millions* of fans giving him good ratings. It doesn't register (or get through his efficiently blocking reality filter) that there are 3X more folk who'd just as soon piss on him.

OMG -- Pence was visibly shook in Poland when he received absolutely no reaction to what was clearly supposed to be an applause line about how "the time has come for our European partners to withdraw from the Iran nuclear deal."

(Almost) unbelievably, Lawrence O'Donnell reported tonight that the official White House transcript of Pence's speech says the audience applauded Trump's greetings.

You know, I suspect even Pence is now seriously reconsidering who his friends are in Washington. Pence may be a wound-up-tight prig but he is also no fool. If that was the reception he was given carrying Trump' words, hopefully he was bright enough to realise he was given this frigid response because (a) they were absolutely rubbish ideas, an (b) they came from Trump. And that perhaps the reason for his global embarrassment lie not with the EU but with the White House he represents. Time for some re-assessment...

You are giving Mama-boy too much credit: Pence is the kind of guy who believes that WW2 was God's punishment of Europe for believing in Darwinism.
Of course European leaders, as agents of Satan, would try to stand against the Manifest Destiny that God has ordained for the US in general, and Mike Pence in particular.

Oh for sure! Bats in the belfry and all. But he is also far more self-aware than his boss. He will have taken note of this (non-)response.

That explains Pence's pauses.

It doesn't explain why Pence believed people would applaud.

It's hard to know what Pence believes with his over-the-top Trump worship.

It was noted on his teleprompter, as prepared by Steve Miller probably.

He's the bookmark in the White House for where they will find the next president when Donny finally starts flinging his own poo on national TV. He doesn't want to jeopardise that position in the meanwhile.

Mitch and the others have told him that too. about three or four years ago when they let Trump be the shock-troop.

Exactly none. You seem to have this national emergency declaration confused with other executive actions.

I'm pretty sure that what Lawrence showed was the prepared script, with the *anticipated* applause points and thus where to pause for them. Not some massaged after action report. But that latter document might yet be written, knowing that crowd of addled fantasists...

Yet somehow Donnie remains oblivious to all this. How does this not get through to him? How does he manage to block it all out?
Its just another obvious public symptom of his narcissism. He just can't believe people don't love him and think he's the greatest

Take a look through this list of indicators for Narcissistic Personalty Disorder. How many can you check off as recognising as applying to Trump?

1. Grandiose sense of self-importance

4. Believe they are too good for anything average or ordinary.
5. Only wants to associate and be associated with other high-status people, places, and things
6. Believe that they’re better than everyone else
7. Expect recognition for things when they’ve done nothing to earn it
8. Exaggerated or outright lie about their achievements and talents
9. Always talking about how much they contribute, how great they are, and how lucky the people in their lives are to have them

11. Always telling self-glorifying fantasies of unlimited success, power and brilliance
12. Meet any criticism with defensiveness and even rage
13. Needs constant praise and admiration
14. Surround themselves with people who are willing to cater to their obsessive craving for affirmation
15. Any diminishment in the admirer’s attention and praise is treated as a betrayal
16. A sense of entitlement
17. Expect favorable treatment as their due
18. Truly believe that whatever they want, they should get
19. Expect the people around them to automatically comply with their every wish and whim
20. Exploits others without guilt or shame
21. Lacking in empathy for others
22. Views others in their lives as objects to serve their needs

25. Feel threatened by those who appears to have something they lack—especially those who are confident and popular
26. Feel threatened by people who don’t kowtow to them or who challenge them in any way

Sadly she has now retired, but she is still wheeled out for encore performances every so often.
