Alabama councilman, 19, sick with covid after opposing mask mandate: ‘Terrible not to be able to breathe’

Hunter Pepper, 19, speaks at a Decatur, Ala., city council meeting. (City of Decatur/YouTube)
A teenage city council member in Decatur, Ala., who voted in April to end his city’s mask mandate, landed in the hospital with the coronavirus Wednesday night after developing pneumonia and struggling to breathe.

“I am still shallow in breathing but my oxygen remains okay for now!” 19-year-old Hunter Pepper, who in August 2020 became the youngest person ever elected to the Decatur City Council, said on Facebook Thursday. “Confirming last night after a ‘CT-Scan’ I am now shown to have ‘Covid Pneumonia’ which is absolutely terrible.”

Don't worry, Hunter...you're young. Chances are you'll be just fine. Of course, pneumonia can leave you with scarred lungs for the rest of your life making it even more dangerous to ever have it again, but hey....FREEDOMS, amirite?

Pepper previously joked about running over black protestors at the Riverchase Galleria mall, Hoover, Alabama, where they had gathered to protest about the shooting of a black man by police.

He was only 16 at the time, so I guess we should probably be somewhat lenient.

They should play the George Floyd killing video for him over and over while he struggles to breathe himself. Maybe it will sink in this time...

The shooting followed an incident in the Mall in which an altercation turned violent when one of the participants drew a gun and began firing. The man police shot was apparently not involved, he was apparently a 'good guy with a gun' who was trying to protect shoppers fleeing the scene. Emantic Bradford was shot by undercover officers who, witnesses say, did not identify themselves or issue any warnings prior to opening fire on Bradford. Police were convinced at first Bradford was the shooter, but later cleared him of any involvement.

The incident sparked protests and Hunter Pepper tweeted that the protesters were fools and he'd like to run them over. It's hard to believe someone so reckless -- and so young -- would even be considered for local political office much less elected. But here we are. Now after opposing mask mandates Pepper is himself very sick with Covid-19.

A bad movie you can't turn off.

Alabama Pickers, couple known for reselling and vaccine opposition, both dead of COVID
By Tandra Smith | tsmith@al.com

Tristan and Dusty Graham

A married Alabama couple known for their reselling videos on YouTube under the name “Alabama Pickers” have both died of COVID.

Dusty and Tristan Graham lived in Huntsville, where they would often post videos about various tips and tricks to reselling vintage items like clothes and home decor. They sold on eBay under the username, bama4348.

Dusty died Thursday, almost three weeks after his wife did, according to the GoFundMe page set up by one of their children.

One of the last videos the married couple posted on their now deleted YouTube channel was about how they wouldn’t get the vaccine

Bill of Rights isn't doing him a damn bit of good anymore. He died of his freedumbs. Live Free and Die. Tough luck pal.

Just was wondering, because I know how taboo it is to derail threads and go off-topic. I mean, the topic is clearly stated in the thread title.

The good news is both sides are working to increase the vaccination rate: the pro-vax are doing it on the numerator side, while the anti-vaxxers work on the denominator.

Bama pickers' Ebay store is still live, but their "away" message is on. It sounds like the date might be a little optimistic.

I’m not exactly shy and I think I tend to agree. These people have families and loved ones. They have high school buddies who remember the good times. We can do better and we should.

What’s a less offensive word for “politician”?

I don't. Playing nice with the ANitvax morons just does not work.
And that is another problem I have with of Liberals/Progressives. They don't know when the kinder gentler apporach just does not work, and stronger steps is required.
And I see nothing wrong with having Schenfreude about a lot of morons who brough their fate on themselves with their stupidity, and endangered others lwhile doing it.
As far as the Covid goes,No More Mr Nice Guy.

and you really think calling dead GOP politicians whom are anti-vaxxers and/or anti-maskers, dumb***es is going to help? Somehow, don't see it as helping. It just disrespectful of the dead. I think the point can be made using better wording. Or maybe it was just the way I was raised.

They have had two years to garner sympathy. Instead, they have contributed significantly to the killing of over 660,000 fellow Americans who also had high school buddies and remembered their good times. So the sympathy has gone. Nobody laughs at them, but there is no sorrow for them either. Just a few loudmouth disease vectors have disappeared.

Do you have sympathy for anyone who deliberately kills others in in a horrible way in large numbers?
