Recall that one Trump supporter here stated outright that Trump pardoning a long-dead black man was pure proof he was not racist at all.

Said supper then drooled openly over the over militarized police attacking minorities at Furgeson.

His ads probably aren't aimed at black people, but gullible white people who still had a glimmer of humanity and were put off by some of his racist activity and were considering not voting for him because of it. Now they can pretend "He's not racist...(for reasons)".

The Democrats really missed the opportunity to investigate Trump's finances by only going after his Russian connections.

I wonder if he knows how stupid his ad was?

It features that one woman Kim K brought to Trump's attention who Trump then pardoned. She praises Trump, of course. Then the ad ended with Trump saying he gets things done.

I'm glad he pardoned her. She should have been pardoned earlier by Obama.

But how does letting one wrong person in jail out mean anything? What about all the sentencing reform Trump has not gotten done? If anything, Trump's made that worse with more private prisons.

I'm still watching to see if there's a second one, the first one was really short. Certainly not 60sec of ad.

Bloomberg's had a similar theme, a personal story about losing a son to gun violence ending with a promise Bloomberg isn't threatened by the gun lobby. Made more sense.

He is a pathetic POS, but not because of this ploy. He's just using a very standard divide-and-conquer tactic. He didn't create the fissures; he is just exploiting them. It probably wasn't even his idea. So the thing to do is, look for fissures in the Republican camp and drive wedges in at those points. Hammer on them. How about throwing some gasoline on a Trump-Romney feud? Shouldn't be that hard to do.

I'm not even saying that's the best example, because I don't know. But: When they go low, go lower; just be sure to retain plausible deniability. Earnestly campaigning on the issues is fine but pulling a few dirty tricks probably won't hurt. Let's get these bastards at each other's throats, where they belong.

Keep in mind that until they took the House, the Democrats didn't really have many options. (We only got the Mueller report involving Russia because the rather high-profile firings in the FBI.)

And there ARE ongoing investigations into Trump's finances, so its not like the issue is being ignored...However, like other investigations, Trump has done everything to block subpoenas in the courts. The supreme court is set to hear arguments about subpoenas in March, and will probably rule some time around June.

https://www.cnn.com/2019/12/13/polit...nts/index.html

Now, some of these subpoenas were issued in the spring of 2019, so by the time the supreme court rules on them, it will have been a delay of almost a year. Of course, the risk to Trump is that the supreme court rules against him, then it means his financials might end up getting released right in the middle of the election campaign.

I have a different take. Trump's trying to dismiss Biden with claims of corruption so Trump can fight the next top two with socialism fear mongering.

Now he has Bloomberg moving up and that's a hard one for Trump. So he's trying to make Bloomberg out to be the DNC fav with the evil Party out to get Sanders.

I'm sure Trump didn't come up with this strategy. He's not that clever.

So I guess that 30 sec ad was all Trump bought.

I did. There were people like me who wondered if it was sustainable but in terms of experts predicting it based on economic theory and evidence they were thin on the ground.

Just remember... According to the presidential records act, all communications must be archived.

Guess I sort of saw Trump's second ad. From NYT (sorry no link):
Quote:
Mr. Trump’s ad begins with a news report from Mr. Trump’s favorite night — election night 2016 — as a narrator intones that “America demanded change, and change is what we got.”

Quick flashes of military operations — an aircraft carrier cutting through choppy seas, a fighter jet making a hard banking turn — give way to a recited list of economic realities under Mr. Trump: rising wages and low unemployment.

At the end of the ad, Mr. Trump is shown speaking at one of his raucous rallies, proclaiming, “Ladies and gentlemen, the best is yet to come.”
I think I saw this but Trump's statement at the end didn't register. I was probably playing with the dogs and not playing attention to the TV.

Of course Trump lies about wages rising.

Speaking as someone with zero interest in sport, I feel obliged to point out how ridiculous it is that a team with the word Kansas in its name does not represent Kansas.

To be fair it isn't entirely their fault, most of Kansas City is in Missouri so they are victims of geography.

It would have made more sense to rename the city to Missouri City I suppose.

I can't remember every seeing a campaign ad during the Superbowl and last night I got at least two; Trump's which was the campaign ad equivalent to "I can't be racist, the guy who mows my lawn is black" and one from Bloomberg's dog.

That's not a loan, but just bribery and money laundering. Glad to see, though, that the deliberate implication, that anyone pretending to lend Donald Trump money must be doing it for other, perhaps nefarious, reasons (hence the pretense of a "loan"), wasn't lost in the translation.

It's the only thing they currently had data for, to my knowledge the financial data subpoenas are still going through the courts.
