London lesbians beaten for not kissing

Beaten bloody and also robbed. One man spoke Spanish and the other three had British accents. They should be identified with all the security cameras around.

Ryanair stewardess tells how gang of men battered and mugged her and her girlfriend on a London bus 'after pair refused to kiss for their entertainment' - as police probe 'homophobic attack'

Melania Geymonat, 28, was riding the bus with her American girlfriend Chris after an evening out in West Hampstead, North West London, in the early hours of May 30. But during the journey, she claimed a gang of young men behind them saw they were a couple and started to demand they kiss while making crude sexual gestures.

She said: 'The next thing I know is I'm being punched. I got dizzy at the sight of my blood and fell back. I don't remember whether or not I lost consciousness.'

Scotland Yard today confirmed it was investigating the 'homophobic attack' which saw a phone and bag stolen during the assault on the N31 bus at 2.30am. Miss Geymonat added: 'They wanted us to kiss so they could watch us. I tried to defuse the situation as I'm not a confrontational person, telling them to please leave us alone as Chris wasn't feeling well.'

The men, who were in their 20s or 30s, began throwing things on the bus - which was travelling towards Camden - and the couple told them to stop...

The fetishization of lesbians by straight men (I'm assuming they were straight, sounds like it) is honestly really troubling to me. I don't mean with porn and fantasy. I mean in real life. I have personally witnessed men bothering lesbian couples they don't know to kiss or do other things, and a member of this very forum told a similar story some years back. No one was attacked in those cases, obviously. That's why this one made the papers.

I'm not going to continue to participate in this thread, because I am certain ugly, rotten things will be said by somebody, and I'm just not in the mood for that today. Suffice it to say, I am right about this. If you (general you) read the post I just made and feel somewhat defensive, then you've got a problem.

Wow!

Are you actually blaming the victims of the crime for the crime itself?

Yeah it's our fault for misreading the thing he literally just said.

And if he's not some try-hard will be along any minute to actually make that argument.

He's saying jerkish things but if that makes you think he's a jerk, that's just you being stupid and falling for it because that's what he WANTED you to think all along! The only way not to be a loser is to let his jerky statements stand without any reaction whatsoever!

I'm afraid I'm not entirely innocent of the fetisation you describe but I'm extremely aware (because I know real, actual ladies who date ladies) that that which is on the screen is not real life.

You both have been on this forum for a very long time and are very familiar with Cain's Poe posting style so I am surprised at your outrage.

But back on topic. This is truly horrible and I hope the criminals get the book thrown at them.

If one wants to avoid the Daily Heil, and benefit from more local and up-to-date reporting:

London Evening Standard: Woman and girlfriend attacked on London night bus 'for refusing to kiss for gang of men'

Hopefully the bus CCTV was working, and these ******* can be identified.

This article doesn't mention the Spanish-speaking and the British accents. So it is less comprehensive when compared to Daily Mail and The Herald.

OK then.

Thanks much for the clarification.

Perhaps if you and/or 'Cain' were badly beaten and robbed, then you would find that to be most amusing as well.

At least it's not soliciting information on the victims, unlike the Daily Heil scum.

Is a conversational style that doesn't lend itself to text as well as speech. I'm sure in person the tone and body kamasutra would have made it more clear it was a sarcastic point.

Don't put that challange out there because some people can and will pick it up. I've been through some **** but have no problem joking about it, I follow the Jewish logic of "if you don't laugh you cry".

If you want the poster to be more sensitive just ask, because if they are anything like me they very well could get beaten and robed and be joking about it hours later. I was cracking " the score is now 1 to 10 billion" to a mildly racist friend of a friend who tried to use the fact I hit mugged by poc as evidence of the criminal nature of those types.

The Mail are fishing for anything they can get about the victims to try to give the story legs. Presumably this story will run at least until the perpetrators are identified and tracked down, so it needs filler until that happens. In the meantime, any salacious gossip or titillating detail they can buy will be spun into another day's story about the victims. They're lesbians: any relationship history the paper can unearth, however mundane, will be spun to sound as titillating as possible.

These women are not just the victims of a violent attack, their lives have now been fed into the tabloid machine and they're going to suffer a couple of weeks of stories that even they will scarcely recognise as referring to themselves.

How long before it turns out to be a hoax? Just putting this here so a) I can seem super smart when it is and/or b) as a reminder to not get all het up and diatribaceous on things like media coverage, fetishes, busses, etc until you are sufficiently certain this isn't another of those times that we keep having multiple times a year now.

Maybe it happened, maybe it didn't, but surely the sensible course is to temper one's response in accordance with the solidity of the evidence. Otherwise one could bust a gasket for no reason.

Oh sod all the way off with that "Schrodinger's *******" argument.

There's more to satire and parody then just being an inappropriate troll and declaring victory when people are annoyed by it.

Again when someone takes a crap in the salad bar he's not "winning" when people get upset over it.

If you tire of a particular poster's recurring schtick use the ignore button. I'm sure plenty of people tired of my nonsense and acted accordingly.

If you're tired of me complaining about it, ignore me. You can ignore me in perfect 1:1 ratio of me ignoring them.

And yes that will be my response every time someone tells me to ignore a troll.

Anyone else got a transient guilty feeling that crossed their mind reading this that anyone associated with Ryanair gets what they deserve? Intellectually I know she is probably treated appallingly by her employer probably even worse than customers; and I should feel sorry for her.

Indeed I do feel sorry once I look at the picture. I think I'll go and have a cry and put TRB on very loud.

Four teenage boys aged between 15 and 18 have been arrested after a Ryanair flight attendant and her girlfriend were punched and robbed by a gang of men on a London bus when they refused to kiss.
If the ones arrested are the ones who did it, send them to prison.

What an awful situation. I hope they got the right ones though. (remembering the "central park five")

Indeed I do feel sorry once I look at the picture. I think I'll go and have a cry and put TRB on very loud.
Why is that? What is Ryanair anyway? An airline, I gather, but is there something particularly objectionable about this airline?

London has more cameras than the tourist area of Chicago.

In other words, they know exactly who got on and off that bus at certain times.

We can be sure of this because of the Jussie Smollett case.

Ryanair is one of those ultra-budget, "no frills almost to the point of it being an intentional affect" kind of airlines and they often pop up in the news for some super-stupid cost cutting measure (they for instance tried to save money by ordering their aircraft without window shades but were stymied by various regulations) or for that kind of "You almost have to be doing it on purpose" kind of bad customer service, like refusing industry standard bereavement fairs or adding a surcharge if a passenger needed a wheelchair.

Well, as long as they pass those savings along to the customer, arguably that's fair. But no reason to hate the poor people just trying to make a living.

Agreed that regardless of what their parent company does it does not translate into actions such as these against employees being acceptable.

ETA: Which to be fair is not what I think Planigale was going for either.

These women are not just the victims of a violent attack, their lives have now been fed into the tabloid machine and they're going to suffer a couple of weeks of stories that even they will scarcely recognise as referring to themselves.
I was thinking that this was the way for Daily Mail to publish meaningful support for the victims. Right after the Jussie Smollett incident there were friends and family and coworkers who had quotes published in the media. Essentially letters of support, sympathy and hopes for justice. That can't really happen unless these people connect with reporters.

Maybe it happened, maybe it didn't, but surely the sensible course is to temper one's response in accordance with the solidity of the evidence. Otherwise one could bust a gasket for no reason.
If the ladies had fought off the gang of boys with one hand while holding a subway sandwich in the other, as the boys yelled some corny political slogan at them, it probably would have made me pause.
