Or just eat the blasted fruit and be done with it. Teeth are free.

(For most people anyway.)

The end of the Juicero:

Inside Juicero's demise, from prized startup to fire sale

Quote:
The shuttering of the much-ridiculed Silicon Valley startup was the culmination of unsustainable costs, slow sales and unflattering media reports.

On Sept. 1, as many U.S. businesses closed early for the Labor Day holiday weekend, Juicero Inc.—a lavishly funded startup that once sold a $699 Wi-Fi-connected juice press—announced it was shutting down forever.

Juicero’s demise was not unexpected. Its collapse was the consequence of unsustainable costs, unflattering headlines and a bungled product launch. After attracting about $134 million in funding from such illustrious investors as Google Ventures and Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, Juicero was losing about $4 million a month. Four years after its founding, the startup was unable to find new backers willing to fund its ambition of making fresh juice accessible to all.
The part in bold is nonsense. It was an idiotic product that only people with too much money and too little brains would buy. Why would anyone in their right mind buy a juicer that requires one to buy expensive pre-packaged fruit from a single supplier? And even if they succeeded in selling millions of Juiceros, how long would it be before other companies started selling cheaper fruit pouches (like Keurig's competitors did with coffee cups)?

It was a stupid idea from the start, pushed by a CEO who was a fanatic vegan. The story is a good read, and a lesson in how to get too deeply invested in a bad idea.

For some definition of "fresh". Juice from pulp in a plastic pouch doesn't do it for me.

Exactly. The whole concept was idiotic. It was almost an outright fraud. And the investors failed to catch enough suckers in the net.

Just watched this awesome video on a channel I was led to from the Hobbies and Interests forum. The design and manufacturing of the Juicero is amazing! Too bad it was done in support of a **** concept.

NSFW for language in the audio.
