The meeting with Trump is Kims golden opportunity to negotiate his way out of the sanctions without giving up his nukes.
I wonder, where do you get this information from?

One commentator on North Korea was asked in February last year about a possible talk between Kim Jong un and Donald Trump. Here's the question and what his response was:

Quote:
Obama apparently told Trump that North Korea would be his biggest foreign-policy headache. The American approach to North Korea has not yielded much. Does Trump’s apparent willingness to consider negotiating make any more sense?

No. The goal of [North Korean] nuclear armament is not mere security from U.S. attack, which conventional weaponry trained on Seoul has preserved since 1953—and through far greater crises than George W. Bush’s little “axis of evil” remark in 2002. As every North Korean knows, the whole point of the military-first policy is “final victory,” or the unification of the peninsula under North Korean rule. Many foreign observers refuse to believe this, on the grounds that Kim Jong-un could not possibly want a nuclear war. They’re missing the whole point.

North Korea needs the capability to strike the U.S. with nuclear weapons in order to pressure both adversaries into signing peace treaties. This is the only grand bargain it has ever wanted. It has already made clear that a treaty with the South would require ending its ban on pro-North political agitation. The treaty with Washington would require the withdrawal of U.S. troops from the peninsula. The next step, as Pyongyang has often explained, would be some form of the North–South confederation it has advocated since 1960. One would have to be very naïve not to know what would happen next. As Kim Il-Sung told his Bulgarian counterpart Todor Zhivkov in 1973, “If they listen to us, and a confederation is established, South Korea will be done with.”

Western soft-liners keep saying the U.S. must finally negotiate a peace treaty with Pyongyang. That’s where their op-eds conveniently end. These people show no awareness of what such a treaty would have to entail. Are they in favor of withdrawing U.S. troops? If so they should come right out and say so, instead of pretending North Korea will content itself with the security guarantees it has rejected for decades. Many observers believe that the stronger the North Koreans get, the more reasonable they will become. Whenever I think I’ve seen the height of American wishful thinking, I find out it can get even sillier.

It's an opinion formed from reading a variety of analysis. North Korea is no stranger to food shortages, but now it appears China may actually cooperate with sanctions rather then block them or just pay lip service.https://www.cfr.org/backgrounder/chi...a-relationship

Kim wants it to appear that all his people support him, but not all do, and more serious starvation could be serious trouble. Elites in North Korea fear change as sanctions test regime

You are incorrect. It will appear that Kim summoned a US president to the Chinese, Russia and our other rivals. He will appear weak which isn't a plus since he already appears naïve.

North Korea is conditioned for dynastic rule. They'd have to find someone with the right family true, to install as ruler if they wanted to go that route.

He was not summoned. He was invited. That he accepted without any thought makes him look like a moron, at best, but it doesn't change the invitation to a summons.

Sorry, Craig, but I think you're looking a bit desperate to claim that Trump was summoned. He wasn't. He was invited. He accepted the invitation immediately, and probably unwisely, but it was an invitation nonetheless.

He will appear to have been summoned if he goes to North Korea. Losers go to the winners. This is how nations send messages to each other particularly as it relates to North Korea. Are you familiar with what's been called the "reciprocal dinner" debacle in 2002? If failing to host a reciprocal dinner can wrong foot us, what do you think going to him might do?

I wonder if Kim is smart enough to shower Trump with praise. He'll have Trump's panties off in a jiffy if he does.

How the hell does Trump get credit? He, nor his admin, has done anything at all to further this along. NK/SK did it themselves. You guys are just itching to give him credit for anything, aren't you?

How funny would it be if KJU did this whole thing just to spite Trump? I would laugh a little if at the end of this KJU released a presser that said, "Sorry Trump, we don't need your help. We did something you couldn't."

Trump surely upset the usual situation. If there's a real peace, I might concede his unpredictability played a role. Could be.

Let's see what happens.

When you have an executive that isn’t a wimp, these kinds of agreements are easier to put together. Trump gets all the credit because of how he’s dealt with NK.

Maybe in his second term, he'll piss off the Palestinians so hard that they make peace with the Israelis. American presidents have earned Nobel Peace Prizes for accomplishing a lot less.

Sure, because moving the embassy is a brilliant move. Next step, peace. Because after all, that issue is now settled. All of Jerusalem belongs to Israel. Done deal!

Awww. Let them have the 'win'. The right wing put into place the worse, most amoral, and most corrupt president in the history on the USA. The snowflakes need to find something to feel good about. Even if it is a lie.

If we do this meeting it will in no way, shape or form be a real win for Trump. Trump will call it a win but as has been astutely observed recently, "Trump is untethered to the truth". Kim is busy preparing the battle space with China and South Korea. We're not. Trump will dance with the traditional dancers, get some tat from a gift shop and sell out his country and his allies as he normally does. James Clapper with have to go on Jack Tapper and explain how Trump got played.

I know that. You know that. Rational people know that. But there are those who are so upset, that they will cling to anything to make them look 'good'. I plan to let the right have the 'win', knowing that it is a lie. And those that claim it's a trump win; Well, I know they are being untruthful, in the manner of their amoral dear leader.

Define "end" and "war". I'll give you a pass on "bets". Here's another good one : de-nuclearisation. We're all in favour of that, but what exactly is it?

The meeting itself beggars my imagination, and not much does that. In normal times one could assume that work is going on behind the scenes to thrash out some form of words to get around such questions, but can a hollowed-out State Department actually manage that?

I don't think ithe meeting will happen, and everybody will get blamed by somebody. Comey in particular will take a right beating over it, mark my words.

That credit comes free, so why not ladle it out? Japan is dependent on the US for its defence, after all. For now, at least.

There's a meeting...but it's not going to involve Donny...possibly...maybe... I think Kim will have to bring money...LOTS of personal folding money in a brown paper sack...to interest Donny.

Quote:
Trump added that his planned summit with Kim could be “in early June or a little before” and that five possible venues are being discussed. But he conceded it was possible that the unprecedented meeting might not happen at all.

“It’s possible things won’t go well and we won’t have the meetings, and we’ll just continue to go along this very strong path that we’ve taken,” the president said. “But we will see what happens.”

He screwed over his fellow stakeholders in both the USFL and the west side yards.

He screwed over Qatar.

Not to mention, that is the implication of "America first."

And whatever foreign relations he harms in this process will likely be one you also don't find valuable.

I'm not sure how unification is negotiated with a "living god". That could be a stumbling block.

That's because Abe needs our help. He's got a go home issue of getting the kidnapped Japanese citizens held in North Korea back. Abe, like Macron and the Saudis figured out if you stroke Trumps ego a little, he's fiddle ready to be played.
