What is the use of these models if they aren’t “spot on” and can’t say whether two people out of over 60 million will get the disease.

First, I am sorry your mother and her partner contracted the disease.

Second, I recognize the sarcasm... I was not referring to specific events and as you know, modeling will never cover that level of detail. The R0 and the Re have been all over the board and the modeling for isolation, social distancing, face masks, reduction of crowd size and so on... has done very little to contain this virus. Every mitigating method is based off of modeling and yet the numbers rise. The methods to flatten the curve may more influence on this virus to continue than anything else. Flattening was never intended to eliminate this virus, it was enforced to halt the rapid rise at the beginning of this mess AND it was successful in accomplishing that goal but it extended the duration time. Now that the winter is approaching those who live in the Northern Hemisphere... it could be a greater nightmare.

Ben Carson tests positive for COVID.
Quote:
Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Secretary Ben Carson has tested positive for coronavirus, a spokesperson and a longtime adviser confirmed on Monday.

"Spoke with my brother Dr. Carson earlier and he is doing extraordinarily well. He is so grateful to have access to powerful therapeutics. We also pray for the millions who celebrated over the weekend and may have exposed themselves to COVID19," tweeted Armstrong Williams, who advised Carson's presidential campaign.

A HUD spokesperson also confirmed the diagnosis.

Great work by the administration pushing the historic and unprecedented vaccine development under Operation Warp Speed, even as cynical Democrats attempted to undermine its credibility.

Joe Biden’s only plan for the virus is Trump’s plan. Always has been.

If Joe Biden were President, you wouldn’t have the Vaccine for another four years, nor would the @US_FDA have ever approved it so quickly. The bureaucracy would have destroyed millions of lives!

As I have long said, @Pfizer and the others would only announce a Vaccine after the Election, because they didn’t have the courage to do it before. Likewise, the @US_FDA should have announced it earlier, not for political purposes, but for saving lives!

Uh... Pfizer hasn't even put it out for review, let alone sent it to the FDA, let alone had the FDA review it, let alone had the FDA approve it.

Nothing!
Quote Tweet

Mark R. Levin
@marklevinshow

1. Phony Joe Biden.
Joe Biden is truly an ambulance chaser. He had nothing to do with the vaccine that is about to be made available to the public, he had nothing to do with the manufacturing process that is already underway,

2. and he had nothing to do with the distribution process that is set in place, all of which were superbly instituted by President Trump and his team.

3. So, there he is, at a podium, reading from a teleprompter, telling us how he will follow the science, how he will distribute the vaccine, etc.,

4. now that Pfizer announced today that its vaccine is ready to go very, very soon (obviously, Pfizer chose to hold back its announcement until after the election).

5. This is the kind of ******** we are going to hear from this clown (to quote him), who did absolutely nothing and has done absolutely nothing.

6. In fact, all the while, when Trump and his team were doing everything possible to get vaccines and therapeutics invented and distributed, Biden was attacking them every step of the way. But it's just like the economy, which is springing back in a huge way.

7. Biden has trashed the unprecedented rebound, spewing the usual bromides about how only the rich benefit, etc. Biden is not the president yet, if ever, depending how events unfold.

8. But regardless, this really takes a set of grapefruits for Biden to posture as he did today, and for the media to regurgitate it like Biden has somehow done something or accomplished something. Biden has been AWOL, utterly irrelevant.

9. And it is nauseating watching this choreographed fiction by the guy who hid in his basement throughout the virus.

I thought Covid-19 was going to disappear after Election Day?
Quote:
Back in May, Eric the Trump had said, “Guess what, after November 3 coronavirus will magically all of a sudden go away and disappear and everybody will be able to reopen." Forbes
This was a claim daddy trump repeated. This was a claim picked up by numerous trump supporters, as a Georgia news columnist named John Hewitt observed back in August.
Quote:
On numerous occasions recently, I’ve heard comments that indicate some folks believe coronavirus will disappear after the November elections in which the next president of the United States will be chosen. DeKalb County Champion
Guess what?

Since the pandemic began, Trump, like a cable TV psychic medium, has been throwing **** against the wall to see what will stick. If Ivanka insists on using scare quotes around the word expert, she should include the biggest "expert" of all: her father.

It's 15 people and soon it will be down to zero. It's like a flu. It'll go away with the heat. He endorsed unproven treatments like chloroquine and oleandrin, suggested moronic treatments like injecting disinfectant and light. He discouraged masks and social distancing, even and especially at his idiot rallies. He said it was going away. His administration's lackadaisical attitude towards the virus resulted in Trump getting it himself. He then still held super-spreader rallies, said we had" turned the corner," and finally, finally was semi-correct about a fast-tracked vaccine that he had little, if anything, to do with. It still has to be FDA approved, manufactured in vast amounts, and probably won't be available in quantity to the public in general until first quarter 2021. Or just as the most optimistic "experts" were predicting.

So yeah 'Vanka, your old man was in the general vicinity of being right about something, without having much to do with that something, so **** off.

On Monday, Vice President Mike Pence said on Twitter that the news came “thanks to the public-private partnership forged” by Mr. Trump . . .

In July, Pfizer got a $1.95 billion deal with the government’s Operation Warp Speed, the multiagency effort to rush a vaccine to market, to deliver 100 million doses of the vaccine. The arrangement is an advance-purchase agreement, meaning that the company won’t get paid until they deliver the vaccines. Pfizer did not accept federal funding to help develop or manufacture the vaccine, unlike front-runners Moderna and AstraZeneca.

Pfizer has distanced itself from Mr. Trump and Operation Warp Speed. In an interview on Sunday, Kathrin Jansen, a senior vice president and the head of vaccine research and development at Pfizer, said, “We were never part of the Warp Speed,” adding, “we have never taken any money from the U.S. government, or from anyone.”

On Monday, a spokeswoman for Pfizer clarified that the company is part of Operation Warp Speed as a supplier of a potential coronavirus vaccine.

Although it’s true that Pfizer and BioNTech had been working on a vaccine all year before the companies struck their deal with the U.S. government in July, a $1.95 billion deal is nevertheless a significant incentive to keep going. In fact, international health organizations have long used such market guarantees to encourage for-profit manufacturers to supply vaccines to the developing world.
Still, Trump had about as much to do with this as I did.

trump's nemesis, the Washington Post, has a non-paywalled news article headlined, "40 times Trump said the coronavirus would go away," and consists of video of sound bites as trump "repeatedly said that the virus will disappear": WaPo link

(When you click on the video at the top of the linked page there is a brief commercial.)

"One day it will go away, just like a miracle." Sure it will.

The Pfizer vaccine has the serious drawback of needing deep cooling, which probably means slower distribution and possibly even slower manufacture.

I won't hold my breath for it.

Hmm. I wouldn't count on it as a solution for everywhere, but IF things pan out there, production should be enough to very significantly impact spread if used wisely.

On October 30th, Dr. Anthony Fauci predicted that the country is heading into a new surge in Covid-19 cases and deaths would rise as well. He criticized governments that were unwilling to make tough choices. Since November 4th, the day after the elections, new cases in the U.S. have topped 100,000 every day.
Quote:
"It’s not a good situation,” Anthony S. Fauci, the country’s leading infectious-disease expert, said in a wide-ranging interview late Friday. “All the stars are aligned in the wrong place as you go into the fall and winter season, with people congregating at home indoors. You could not possibly be positioned more poorly.”...He said the country could surpass 100,000 new coronavirus cases a day and predicted rising deaths in the coming weeks. Washington Post
At the time, (now former) president trump countered that we had instead "turned the corner" on the pandemic.

COVID hospitalizations at all time high.
Quote:
The United States is experiencing an unprecedented surge of hospitalizations across the country. Today, states reported that 61,964 people were hospitalized with COVID-19, more than at any other time in the pandemic. For context, there are now 40 percent more people hospitalized with COVID-19 than there were two weeks ago.
Yeah, we turned the corner right into a parked garbage truck.

It's not perfect but you have to fight with the weapons you have instead of waiting around for the perfect weapon.

Yes - she is praising someone who says he takes no responsibility. I assume that means for positive news as well as negative.
