Grieving father on hunt for justice

Aug. 4--MILFORD -- Within 30 minutes of Alexandra Ducsay's brutal slaying in her Boothbay Street home last year, "everyone knew who did it," the 26-year-old's grieving father claims.

But now, 14 months and one failed arrest warrant attempt later, the person who bludgeoned the aspiring singer and actress to death is still on the loose.

And though police insist that the investigation into the killing is "still open and very active," her father, John Ducsay is tired of waiting.
John Ducsay, 57, of Orlando, Fla., spoke recently with the New Haven Register about his bafflement and anger at a criminal justice system that so far hasn't produced an arrest in his daughter's death.

Alexandra "Zandra" Ducsay was found beaten to death in her home May 19, 2006. She was the only one home at the time, and police have said there were no signs of forced entry. Her mother found her body at 4:44 p.m. that day.

While John Ducsay won't name who the alleged prime suspect in the case, he claims police know who the person is and have tried -- and failed -- at least once to obtain an arrest warrant.

According to John Ducsay, the suspect in the case knew Alexandra since she was a teenager, but never very well. Shortly before the slaying, the man John Ducsay believes killed his daughter was living in another state and phoned his daughter several times, to the point of harassment, he said.

"Everyone knows who did this, we knew within a half-hour after the news (of Alexandra's death)," he said. "It's just incredulous to me, with all the phone calls. ... I'm just fed up. The police have failed."

Police have instructed John Ducsay and other members of the Ducsay family not to speak to the media, and they have turned down offers for interviews and to appear on the Montel Williams show, for fear of disrupting the investigation.

Milford police spokesman Officer Vaughan Dumas wouldn't say what progress has been made in the case, and would not confirm whether police have tried in the past to get a judge to approve an arrest warrant for Alexandra Ducsay's killer.

"We're still actively investigating it," Dumas said. "It's obvious the family would have more information than the public would, and that's stuff that's very sensitive ... that could compromise the investigation."

What has been publicly released is that Alexandra Ducsay, a Jonathan Law High School graduate who went on to earn a bachelor's degree in management information systems from Albertus Magnus College in New Haven in 2001, was found dead in her home at 4:44 p.m. that afternoon. The cause of death was blunt trauma to the head.

The last time anyone saw Alexandra Ducsay, an aspiring singer and actress who said on her MySpace page that she had a bit part in the television show "Law & Order" and danced for artists such as Ginuwine, Gloria Gaynor and Funkmaster Flex, alive was at Bally Total Fitness in Stratford at 11 a.m. on May 19, just hours before her mother, Linda, would make the grisly discovery.

Her friends left while she continued to work out, police said. Her parents are divorced, and the Boothbay Street home where Alexandra Ducsay's body was found is now empty and in the process of being sold. Linda Ducsay still lives in Connecticut, John Ducsay said, but she could not be reached for comment.

Alexandra Ducsay was a systems analyst for a People's Bank branch and also ran a toy drive, called "Zandra's Christmas Drive," for needy children in Bridgeport, her father said. After her death, her two brothers kept it going for one more year.

"I'm just totally distraught and I'm going to do anything to make sure my poor little girl gets justice," John Ducsay said. "No one could have hurt me more. ...I want justice."



Edit: None of the 31 articles about this murder published in the Conneticut mention this murder as being part of a spree of homicides, much less the work of a serial killer (in fact, most note that this was the first homicide in Milton in the past 2 years).

I searched a little further and while there seem to be quite a few homicides in the good state of Conneticut, some of which are bludgeonings, I have no idea what Montel is talking about.

Great research again, Eeney - I always appreciate when you post these. Seems to me that SB WAS demonstrably wrong as far as the serial killer angle. What I can't figure out is why the mother didn't come right out and disagree with what Sylvia was saying, if she suspected this was most likely related to someone her daughter knew. In the article, it says "within half an hour" of her murder everyone suspected who it was. Possibly she was considering that this acquaintance may have in fact been a serial killer, but SB never mentions anything even close to this being someone the daughter knew - in fact, she makes it sound entirely random. What a sad story. it is unbelievable to me that Sylvia and Montel can sit up there and make up these stories while face to face with someone who has experienced such tragedy.

As to why the mom didn't say anything to Sylvia. I would think it was because the Mom is desperate and intimidated by being on TV.

Thank you both very much. I'm particularly proud of this one because it took me forever to find on account of the transcript misspelling the young lady's nickname.

It's so painstaking when you don't have a last name to go on; I found it by literally searching through every instance of "woman" and "found dead" and "bludgeoned" printed in the same article in Connecticut since 2006.

I'm just glad that someone's paying attention, at least.

Right up there with the time she told the boy murdered in Indiana that he was sexually assaulted when he wasn't and when the mother protested that he wasn't but offered his clothes were undone, responded with "Hello!"...and the time she told Linda McClelland's daughters she had gone "goofy".

This makes no sense whatsoever. First she says he won't do it to somebody else. In the same sentence she says he'll do it again. Am I not reading this correctly?

Agree with Sasha that made no sense whatsoever. And i also noted the bit of cold reading you pointed out, Eeney - it's so typical. And striking because judging by the mother's reaction, it's obviously the opposite of what her daughter really was like.

Good point the mother was probably feeling intimidated and desperate. Another thought: If they were initially reluctant to go on Montel or other television for fear of jeapordizing the case, maybe she felt, by the end of the session, that Sylvia obviously had no clue and the last thing she was going to do was enlighten them. It's heartbreaking to see these people go on with such high hopes only to be so totally disappointed.

Every time she opens her mouth in one of these cases, she does harm - whether it's filling the family's heads with horrible images or giving them wrong information that will only distract from whatever really happened. I wish I could get a message out to the world: SYLVIA IS NOT PSYCHIC AND UNLESS YOU JUST NEED THE PUBLICITY, DO NOT GO ANYWHERE NEAR SYLVIA ON MONTEL

Nice job, Eeney! I noticed right off what you did, too, that Sylvia adds the "yes," as if she knew when it is obvious she didn't. Bad guess on her part and she just tries to half-heartedly cover it with a bland "yes."

And she never even told the poor woman that her daughter didn't suffer, she just says the guy followed her in and cracked her head?! How awful! At least Sylvia usually tells others that their loved ones went quickly and didn't suffer. Not that I think Sylvia has even a clue, but she could at least be less crass. Well, maybe SHE couldn't.

The police posted a 50,000 dollar reward for any tips leading to an arrest. You would think a psychic would happily solve a murder for that alone. Not to mention the million dollars that could be theirs for the taking.
