TAM 8 Unofficial Events Google Calender (shared)

To help keep track of unofficial events at TAM 8, I have created a shared Google Calender called "TAM 8 Unofficial Events Calendar"

Most calendar applications should be able to sync with this calendar, so you should be able to get it on your smartphone or other device.

Here is the link to the calendar itself

Link for XML Subscriptions

Link for ICal subscriptions (supposedly, per Google, but it did not work that well for me).

I will try to put all events posted on this forum on the calendar. If you want an event posted and you don't see it on the calendar, you can post something on this thread or PM me.

For the public calendar for official events, created by ScOOter, see this thread.

Is there any way to link to the threads discussing the unofficial events? For instance, downtown dining excursion seems interesting to me, but I'd like to know what options are being discussed. (I know, I know, I could just stumble around and find it myself, but I'm being lazy!)

In the past have had a thread called some variation of "Tam X Unofficial Events thread." Those threads become very long and you have to root around for information after a while.

I was able to add this calendar by clicking on the +GoogleCalendar link in the extreme lower right-hand corner (taking me to my Google calendar) and then using the Add Calendars link to include these events. Once they are added you can display or hide the extra calendars by highlighting them in the other calendars section. Does that help?

I have updated this calendar with the unofficial events that people have posted on the forum in the past couple of weeks. If there are other unofficial events you would like to see on the calendar, please let me know.

As they appear, can you post them to your calendar?

Cheers!

@TAMinfo is not official - it is run by a forum member, not by JREF.

@TAMlive is an official account that is run by Jeff Wagg.

It's probably worth following the other JREF official accounts too, such as Jeff and D.J. and so on. I maintain a Twitter list that follows all of them here:

Hate to nitpick, but you've got the events entered in Mountain Time in that calendar. That causes some odd things to happen if you import it into a calendar app that honors time zones. Las Vegas events should be entered in Pacific Time Zone.

I had previously set to Pacific time, but it looks like it reverted to my default. I just reset the settings to Pacific Time again. Hopefully that will work.

If you could pm me as they are created or post the event here, that would be very helpful.

Here's one to add. IIG is having a lunch gathering on Sunday in the Del Mar Deli / Bar to talk about forming new local chapters. There's a Facebook event page for it.

For the Facebook impaired:

Independent Investigations Group Lunch At TAM8

Date: Sunday, July 11, 2010
Time: 12:30pm - 2:00pm
Location: South Point Casino - Del Mar Lounge/Del Mar Deli

The Independent Investigations Group (IIG) will be having a lunch gathering at The Amaz!ng Meeting 8 on Sunday, July 11, 2010 from 12:30PM to 2:00PM at the South Point Casino Del Mar Lounge/Del Mar Deli.

The IIG and the Committee for Skeptical Inquiry (CSI) have created an IIG Affiliate Program and members of the IIG and CSI will be on hand to discuss how to start up an IIG Affiliate in your area. There are currently IIGs in Los Angeles and Washington, DC with ones in Atlanta, San Francisco, and Sacramento coming soon.

The Independent Investigations Group investigates fringe science, paranormal and extraordinary claims from a rational, scientific viewpoint, and disseminates factual information about such inquiries to the public. www.iigwest.org

Note: Depending on the turnout we may need to relocate to a different venue, so please keep an eye out for any announcements. If you are on Twitter you can follow @derekcbart for updates.

What to do? Hit the road early Sunday morning to avoid back-to-LA traffic, or watch World Cup soccer in the lounge for one last post-TAM hurrah? Argh.

You may want to put the calendar in Pacific time, since that is where Las Vegas is. It's showing Mountain now.

Both football matches are at 11:30 am PDT

Note the Denver part on the end. I believe you are in Colorado, IIRC. Maybe it's the link in the OP that needs to be fixed?

ETA: That's it. When I change the link to http://www.google.com/calendar/embed...ca/Las%20Vegas, the World Cup matches show up at 11:30 am (which is correct). But it looks like other stuff is an hour early.

Just a quick related plug....

I mention the unofficial events calendar as well as a bunch of other online tools to help you enjoy TAM8 in my Digital Guide to The Amazing Meeting 8 over at my blog. Lots of good tips and links.

I rather foolishly booked a ticket to the Cirque du Soleil show "O" at 10pm the same night as the SKepchick party, to which I also have a ticket (well, button). Anyone else going to see O and want to share taxi back to the SKepchick event?
