At the end of this video:

www.youtube.com/watch?v=lAnDflG4BvE (around the 9 minute mark)

and at the start of this one: www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Gz_jhQofm8 (about 1 minute in)

a rather elegant woman is giving her presumably sceptical opinion about Uri Geller. Not possessing any Italian myself I'm hoping that some kind soul here can provide a reasonable transcript of what the lady is saying. I would be enormously grateful.

Thanks in advance.

She mostly talks about the trick that James Randi did. Here's a rough transcript - I missed out a bit where I put [...] and annoyingly I can't make out her final phrase. It sounds like "spiegarmi" which is "to explain to myself". There may be a colloquial way of using that word, or I may be mis-hearing.

-----

Stefania, a medical student

Interviewer: What did Randi ask you to do?

Stefania: Randi had asked me to take a book from my bookcase at home, open it at any page, mark a word on that page, rip out that page, fold it into four and put it in an envelope, close that envelope, fold it in half and then put that in another envolope.

Interviewer: So this word is protected [...] it wasn't transparent?

Stefania: No, not at all.

Int: And no one else saw you chose this word.

Stefania: No, even my father checked that no one else could see.

Int: But he didn't know either.

Stefania: No he didn't know.

Int: And what did you do with this envelope?

Stefania: I kept it with me always, until the moment when I was asked to put it on the table.

< section in which Randi gets the correct word >

Int: So how do you think Randi did this?

Stefania: I've no idea, because you couldn't see through the envelope. I haven't the faintest idea.

Int: If Uri Geller had gone this kind of experiement, would people consider this a paranormal phenomenon?

Stefania: People who believe in that kind of thing would probably consider it a paranormal phenomenon, but for me [...]

Ersby, thank you enormously. It really is appreciated. Likewise Akhenaten. I'm not sure what help I can provide in return but should you ever think of anything, cash and sexual favours excluded, please let me know.

Hi all from italy, I'm new, I see the refferal on my channel on here and I decided to subscribe to this amazing forum. Randi is a cool guy :)

I don't speak english very well, so I want to ask you if there is a section with english transcript of the Randi's videos. There is?
On the web I don't find nothing.

There is anybody can do some transcriptions of his videos?
Like James Randi Speaks: Questioning the Bible and more, I very appreciate that.
I don't understand every single word :(

Thanks for your attention and time.

You speak very good English.

I am sorry that I cannot find any transcripts, but someone more helpful will be here soon.

Hello and benvenuto!

I, sadly, do not speak Italian but if there is any particular video you'd like a transcript from, I probably can transcribe it down, slowly...
It'll still be in English, but it certainly seems like you master the language plenty well-enough to understand what it means....

If you have time, when you want, you'll start from this one : James Randi Speaks: Questioning the Bible

I think it will usefull also for your channel on youtube, put some subtitles for deaf people.

I think one new section for this stuff would be usefull.

Let me know what you think.

Thanks

Sure; I will have a look. But it's 11 minutes (lot of work). More importantly, the fora have rules against posting extensive quotes, so it would probably be against these rules to quote the totality of the video...
So, it'd probably more efficient if you had a precise passage in the video you'd like a transcript of...

On a side note, Randi seems to be wrong, or at least overselling it a bit, when talking about the nonexistence of Nazareth... Archaeological evidence of the city's existence have been found... (there was a thread on that somewhere on these fora, but I can't seem to find it...)
And, of course, Jesus is supposed to be born in Bethlehem, not Nazareth... ;)

There is no problem for post it, you make a file text and upload somewhere, on hosting files website....
But I understand there is a lot of work....It 'better to do as you say.

So Randi is mistaken?
I thought it was not the kind of person who says the wrong things.

However I will open another topic to do that when I need help.

Thx

Nobody is always right...
There are some debate about the existence of Nazareth at the time of Jesus but the evidence, albeit small, tend to suggest that it did exist, but was probably a tiny village. Even then, it would not be as clear cut as Randi make it sound.
So, in this particular case, yes, it'd seem that Randi did get mistaken.
It happens to the best of us.

Nobody is always right...

Mmm yes but Randi doesn't seems to me a kind of person to say wrong things, I'm sure his thinking and informing on the argument before. I'm surprised on this....
