TAM 9 Penn and Teller @Rio

It looks like a lot of folks are arriving early for TAM. I would like to go see Penn and Teller at the Rio on Wednesday night before TAM. Anyone else want to come along? Perhaps we can get nearby seats and share the taxi fare.
 
I'll probably be up for it. I've never seen P&T perform live.
 
I'm due to arrive in Vegas at 4:41 pm on wednsday but I will have travelled from Australia. So if I manage to sleep on the plane (normally not a problem) and depending on the time of the show I might be able to make it.

Although I don't know how long it will take to get from the aircraft to check-in in at the hotel + shower. Might be too stretched for time.
 
We will only arrive on Thursday, but stay till Sunday. Maybe some other people would be interested in a P&T show Sunday evening?

I've got tickets for Sunday, and it seems that we have some "Wednesdays aren't optimal" people and no Sunday objections up to now. Who's with me?

It looks like the only real conflict on Sunday night is the MDC, and that is 5-7. The P&T show is at 9 would still be OK.

Anyone have suggestions on the best way to get tickets to sit together?
 
I'm coming in on Wednesday morning and leaving early Monday. I would prefer to go Wednesday. :)
 
I think I'd probably prefer Sunday too. Maybe we can have two groups, one on Wednesday and one on Sunday?

Chris RN, how early are you leaving on Monday? Maybe you can make the Sunday show. :)

Allecher - I think the only way to have seats together is to buy the tickets at the same time... That would need to be centralized somehow. I guess if we got a few people showing interest in it we could do it.

It depends if you want to go to the Drinking Skeptically on Wednesday (8:00 pm-10:00 pm) or not. The MDC is only until 7:00 pm on Sunday and that would be plenty of time to get a quick bite and go to the Rio.
 
I think that I like Scott's Tuesday night idea. I might even go for the fancy seating up front... Since Wednesday is the Drinking Skeptically thing.

You know, unlike the Thursday night where we Drink Credulously...

There is a group booking link for 10 or more. Provided the number interested isn't ridiculous I'm willing to put the tickets on my credit card so we can book, and sit, as a group.
 
Sunday would be better, knowing me though, I'll end up finding some way to cram more than one P&T show into my schedule.

This is how I know I'm among "my people": the affection for charts and spreadsheets.
 
According to Facebook Drinking Skeptically is Thursday night. I am leaning toward seeing P&T on Wednesday since by Sunday night I will be absolutely tired.

I love spreadsheets, and Penn & Teller... this may be my favorite thread just based on those two elements.

I thought Skeptics in the Pub and Drinking Skeptically were going to be held together (I still don't get what the difference is, but probably that's just me). Looks like they're on different nights now. The official TAM program now just lists SitP on Wednesday. Is Drinking Skeptically now going up against the "Rebecca Watson Game Show & Variety Hour"? ETA: Just saw the FB page. Guess they are!

I've never been to P&T, but I dimly remember from last year's discussion that TAMmers were offered a special discount for the show. Can anybody confirm / deny this? Would be interesting to know before we make a booking.

Yes, they arranged tickets through the JREF. This was done through the official registration page, so if it isn't there this year, I don't think they'll be doing it this way. At this point, it would be pretty short notice to offer it as well.

Just got tickets for Sunday. Last time I saw a Penn & Teller show was in Boston, ten years ago...
 
Wow. I made a heart-crushing mistake. I was wondering why no one here was buying tickets for Saturday. I bought a ticket to the Saturday show about a month ago before the schedule was announced. I didn't know TAM went so late into the evening.

Does Penn and Teller start at 9pm SHARP? I don't want to miss Richard Dawkins on Saturday :(

How long does it take to cab to the RIO from South Point? Will they let me arrive late? I really messed up.

Yes, 9:00 sharp. 20 minutes. 30 by the time you walk all the way to the back of the casino where the P&T theater is. 45 if there is a line at the cab stand, which there almost certainly will be at 9:00 on a Sat night.
 
I called the Rio and thankfully they took pity on me and allowed me to switch my ticket to the following night! I can't describe what a relief that was!

Just out of curiosity, for the Sunday show... is anyone planning on getting there early for the pre-show event that includes amazing entertainment such as looking at a box and signing an envelope? I think that starts around 8.

Anyone else up for going early enough to grab dinner at a non-South Point restaurant? Anything at The Rio worth trying?
 
Penn & Teller Tuesday night

I'll be at Penn & Teller Tuesday night. Please let me know if anyone would like to split a cab/car pool from the South Point to the Rio (PM/email me). Last year, Bryan Stewart and I went to the show the night before TAM and we got to enjoy ice cream and pie wih Penn, his wife Emily Zolton, Randi, DJ and a lot of other people after the show. It was a ton of fun!
