The house has just passed The Protect Life Act, HR 358 which is commonly called "Let the Woman Die Act". If this bill becomes law, it means that a woman can be denied an abortion even to save her life. It can allow two to die for the price of one. It can also allow doctors to deny a woman health care that may damage the foetus inside her.

I see the Republican-majority house is making good use of their time by passing bills that have no chance of becoming law. Good thing that the important stuff in the country is going so well right now that we don't need them to do any real work.

Tricky:

What makes you think this sucker won't pass?

The repubs are definately making it clear the Dems are the lesser of two evils in this election season. Thanks but no thanks. :covereyes

The life of the mother in jeopardy almost never applies.

Do you really think doctors would allow a women to die so as not to kill her fetusbaby also? Of course not.

But I think it's a crappy use of time, given the slightly pressing issues of the day.
Agreed.

You don't say :D

If you are given to hyperbole, yes.

But I think it's a crappy use of time, given the slightly pressing issues of the day.

As I've medical conditions that would make a pregnancy hazardous or fatal, I don't think I'm using 'hyperbole'.

As for use of time, they really need to pull their heads out of their nether regions, or women's uturai!

There's a thread somewhere here where a nun got fired and excommunicated for aborting a fetus to save a woman's life. Preeclampsia is one condition that could kill a woman if she found herself in a hospital that refused abortion on all cases.

This also effects terminally defective babies/fetuses, such as those with out brains who would die within hours outside the womb.

When they get approved to do that in catholic hospitals the person doing the approval gets dammed for all eternity(excommunication) and fired.

So you shift the blame to the process. It becomes a pity she died but it is not our fault we do not perform that procedure and she died before she could be transferred to somewhere that will, or someone who will shows up.

So it was never a personal decision between letting them die or not, so it becomes much easier and no one is to blame.

50,000,000 babies slaughtered.

How many times, within those fifty million, do you think this might have been relevant?

My sister was one out of those "fifty million". She had a life saving abortion because of a weak heart that wouldn't survive the load of a baby.

Of course, things could change should this snake of a bill pass and loved ones, be it even one in fifty million, it is a one in a million to some family. Someone like my sister could die. When you loose a sister, wife, mother and her baby to a hospital who says "No, her life is unimportant because of the foetus inside her", things may look just a tad different.

Please explain.

And it's "lose."

The sister had a birth control failure.

She also had a critically weak heart that didn't beat properly from years of asthma treatment back when the drugs were brutal. A pregnancy is an extra load on the human heart. She had three beautiful young children that needed her, this would have been her forth.

Bad choice of PR term. sounds far to much like the kind of nickname that would be given to a pro-euthanasia bill.

Yes, I think some would, and history agrees with me.

Agreed that congress needs to stop fooling around and dump the Bush tax cuts RIGHT NOW, increase the SS retirement age for young'uns, and get cracking with universal health care.

At this point, the USA is barely a first world country, and the laws that the repubs are trying to pass sound more like Iran than a secular democracy.

Who slaughtered that many infants? It was infants you were talking about right, since a fetus isn't a baby. You do understand the distinction, right?

Fundimentaly they are collections of baryonic matter. There is no particular reason to treat the two differently.
