Midnight Productions

I have a friend terrified a shadowy snuff film organization called "midnight productions" is out to get him in Phoenix

I have seen the name "midnight productions" in all manner of urban legends, and was dismissive of this one as well except for one link. Is there anything to any of this stuff? Was there really a phoenix cop busted for this sentenced to 7 years? I am having trouble with the google fu

http://www.webanswers.com/legal/cps-...and-cps-b49ba8

From the link:

Quote:
"I got off the phone and called the CPS national hotline...they said call the police this wasnt right. My son just vanished.I heard from some people that he was on some list of missing kids from the area that were all kidnapped and being used for child porn....called "midnight Productions"I asked a cop about it he ignored me then he said "the thing you are talking about involving children is called Midnight Productions..they make child porn and snuff movies"He also told me "The police are corrupt even people above them..they are all in on it" He told me never talk to other officers or I would end up dead in a ditch somewhere and be left unsolved"I never gave up though I never will.I also called and spoke to James Valentine homicide detective in Phoenix AZ he said he had been investigating Midnight Production for 5 years and never had any proof.Butt then in April 08 A Phoenix Homicide Detective was arrested on child porn charges....I am affraid of all Government because of these things."

Seems to me it's just the usual shoehorning of a convenient fact into their story. What's so surprising about one cop being charged with having child porn? People like that get found out all the time, in just about every profession you could name. It's just a matter of statistics to expect one to be a cop every now and then.

In fact, it would be more surprising if no cops ever got nailed for it.

There seem to be a lot of "midnight productions" but nothing connected to porn. That said I doubt a child porn company would have a website.

The time line for that story is a bit confusing.

Why him specifically, has he had any contact with anyone claiming to represent Midnight Productions?

According to Snopes, there's no evidence a single snuff film has ever been made. Which would suggest that an organisation dedicated to making them is fairly unlikely really.

It sounds like a modern variation of the old "night doctor" folklore...

Sounds like something out of a not very good and very cliched mystery novel.

Seems pointless.

Humans are good role-players. The extra something of knowing the murder was "real" can be achieved with a minimum of mental gymnastics as long as there is some available sliver of doubt about the film. That's how most conspiracy theories work, too.

So from the point of view of the film-maker, being able to shoot in controlled ways with experienced actors, being able to direct the killing to maximum emotional effect, and being able to use special effects to achieve what looks and feels real (as opposed to the surprises of, well, reality), and of course the not-insignificant consideration of not having to break the law...!

And all they have to do is create that slight aura of reasonable doubt. Heck, it doesn't even have to be that believable an act to be commercially successful -- look at professional wrestling!

And there's also the well-known problem that reality is unrealistic.
