What's the big story in your area, that is sharing the headlines with big national or world news?

The past couple weeks for me, it's been:

BOULDER - Two Boulder officers are facing several felony charges for shooting and killing an elk in the Mapleton neighborhood after an investigation uncovered that the officers had planned to shoot and kill the elk nearly 21 hours before, and then collect the animal for the "personal gain" of trophy and meat.

Here in St. Louis, it's the death of the "greatest Cardinal", Stan "The Man" Musial. Non-stop coverage on the local news.

Local news? LOCAL?!?!

Who cares about local news when a college quarterback had a fake girlfriend!!!!!!!!!!!

Priorities people.

Well, to be fair, we still don't know what kind of previous relationship the officers had with the elk in question.

A group of people attacked a restaurant, smashing windows and attacking guests. Six arrests were made.

Turned out a couple of days later that a (probably false) rumour had gone around the city's Sikh community that a Sikh girl had been raped by a Muslim, and this was a group of Sikhs attacking a Muslim-owned restaurant.

Also, it's been snowing a lot.

Well, after about 20 crime-free years, my village recently had a major incident. A lawn-mower was stolen from someone's garden shed. Police were called, statements taken, and the place dusted for fingerprints.

Three or four days later the lawnmower was returned. Repaired. A bored neighbour had taken it to fix it as a favour for his friend, and was completely oblivious of the crimewave he had created. We then all relaxed and went back to normal. One or two people had even taken to locking their house when they went out!

These things come in threes: expect sad news from Toronto.

As so there is:
A turbulent 15 months have passed since city council first voted to send the Toronto Zoo’s aging elephants to the Performing Animal Welfare Society (PAWS), which runs a California animal sanctuary that takes in retired zoo and circus elephants.

I'm not sure if it's sad they are leaving or that they have not left yet. :con2:

Pretty much bupkis. I can't really think of anything big in the news locally at the moment.

As local as our 24 hour news has it: Fresh water FL oysters may disappear - and we are gonna sue Ga. about it (likely) as that is why the lowered fresh water for them.......

The good news: must be no assaults or other blood releasing stuff happening!!!

Unfortunately, that changed..... it is now 3 yr. old little girl riding bicycle hit by car as she was turning into her driveway. She is at hospital, her mother is with her. Her condition is not known.

Local news here seems to be about people setting cars on fire. There's been a series of car firebombings recently - it appears to be a bunch of kids just getting their kicks, but no-one's been able to catch them.

Take your pick; a guy bites his girlfriend's thumb off, in an argument or the discovery of a meth lab closed off three blocks. It really is a nice town...

I'd go with the meth lab then. Better ending.
