So I decided to listen to a show (and downloaded it) at
http://www.blogtalkradio.com/newspi...t-chris-dufresne-on-the-new-spirit-radio-show

Chris Dufresne repeatedly interrupts the callers' questions/comments to talk. I didn't even get six minutes into it when finding this sad exchange (rough typed transcript starts at 5:27):
New Spirit Radio Show said:
Michael McClellan (Host): We have Lin from New York. What's your question for Chris?

Lin (Caller): Hello Chris.

Chris Dufresne: Hi Lin.

Lin: I'm calling because I lost my hearing in '94 and I'm totally deaf in my left ear. My right ear ? my hole is getting smaller. I had MRIs done. I've gone through cat scans. I've had everything. No one . . .

Chris Dufresne: [Interruption] Let me stop you for a second here. First of all you had an infection and that's why it went this way and you're always born with very small ear canals to begin with in the first place. I do believe, and now I'm not a doctor, I'm a psychic and I still believe you're going to lose more hearing in the one ear. I do believe what you can do is what's called a cochlear implant, it's...

Lin: [Interruption] I don't want to do that. My cousin did that and he almost lost his ...

Chris Dufresne: [Interruption] Hang on a minute. I understand there is good and bad in everything. But my point is this: I believe you'll be eligible for it if you decide to do it. I believe it'll work out really well for you. But the bottom line dear is I do believe there is going to be some continued amount of hearing loss.

Lin: I'm gonna go deaf ain't I?

Chris Dufresne: [Interruption] It will be successful for you in my psychic opinion.

Lin: (Crying) I don't want that.

Chris Dufresne: Thank you so much for your question dear.

Lin: (Crying) I don't want that.

Chris Dufresne: I know you don't.

Lin: (Crying)

Chris Dufresne: I . . . it's a lot more . . . I just believe it will go very well for you dear and certainly we'll put you on our prayer line. We'll all pray for you and send you energy.

Lin: (Crying)

Chris Dufresne: The good news is you'll be able to hear throughout your life if you consider going that route.

Lin: Do you know when it's gonna happen, when I'm going lose my hearing?

Chris Dufresne: You got probably eleven months to maybe one year dear.

Lin: (Crying) Eleven months?

Chris Dufresne: Eleven months to one year. Right.

Lin: (She begins crying more loudly)

Chris Dufresne: I'm sorry, but dear the good news is the medical procedures now adays is certainly topnotch. Like I said, I'll repeat myself to you. It will really work for you...

Lin: (Crying)

Chris Dufresne: ... you may want to consider it and talk to the doctors when you're ready dear. Thank you so much for your call.

Lin: (Crying)

Michael McClellan: Alright thank you Lin...

Lin: (Crying)

Michael McClellan: ... for your call. Now we have Elise from Washington state. Go ahead Elise. What's your question for Chris?

Chris Dufresne: Hi Elise. How are you?

Elise (caller): Hi, I'm good. How are you?

Chris Dufresne: I'm doing great thank you.
...

Absolutely disgusting to tell (or "predict") to a crying a woman who you don't know that she'll lose what's left of her hearing by next year. Then after saying that he cuts the woman off and a few seconds later says he's "doing great".

I'm a big fan of Cochlear implants, but that's not the sort of recommendation they need.

The number of times he says 'dear'....he certainly filled in that psychic bingo square.

RSLancaster, you should perhaps think about starting a StopChris.com (or similar) site. You'll no doubt have plenty of background to go on it to start it off.

As scummy as this guy is, I have very little sympathy for people who still call the shows.

So....let me see if I have this right: Slyvia Browne, a piece of fecal mater*, squatted down one day and pushed out a huge tird which she christened Chris. She kicked the bucket after harming and stealing from multitudes then discorporated and was flushed away from this vale of tears and now the Christird pulls the same **** she used to, but with even less ability to hide a total lack of caring or perception. Feel free to correct me if I have missed anything important.

* yes, I do see what I did there - glad you did also!!!

Seconded.
Actually he could insert the Chris crud in front/at the top so it would be the firt news visitors see

He should have spent more time paying attention to what Mama was doing to weasel out of tight spots like that, and less time riding around in limousines. If he keeps this up, pretty soon he will put himself out of business.

 Surely there must be free services available ,that people can contact to discuss their problems ,rather than spend cash on idiots like him [and his dead mother] only to be told a lot of garbage .I feel sorry for her in her desperation to solve a serious health problem, unfortunately under these circumstances logical thinking goes out the window due to the stress and anxiety involved.I hope she gets help of the medical kind .
Living can be a pain, but we DO get thru it most times !:)

I am hopeful he is not up to the mantle of Sylvia and will fade away.

He didn't have the people skills before, and from the looks of things, he doesn't have them now.

Still, he gets a point for being a "psychic" who actually told someone what they didn't want to hear. ;)

I have no idea what is avalable in USA. In Australia you can contact Lifeline.

I could be wrong. But how I read the first post was that the psychic was telling the crying woman repeatably to seek real medical attention.

He did not say "You don't need medical help dear. Just buy my book or call my psychic line and you will be magically healed."

The crying woman knew about the medical procedure he was referring to and didn't want to hear that.
The psychic was given several opportunities to say something different but kept steering the crying woman to seek real medical attention.

So in my opinion the crying woman will move on to a psychic that tells her about a magic pill or prayer or hands on healing and throw all her money at that.
In the end she will still lose her hearing and her money and will only have herself to blame. So very sad.

I don't know if psychic abilities are a real thing or not but it does seem to me that talk radio is not the place for it.

Even though he said he wasn't a doctor, the fact remains that he posed as someone with authoritative insight (as a psychic) into her problem.

He specifically claimed she would have good hearing for life with a cochlear implant (only a doctor could possibly know this would be the case for her), and he told her she had less than a year before she would be deaf otherwise(another thing only a doctor could possibly know). In fact, he has no grounds for recommending or prescribing a cochlear implant for anyone, much less giving her a prognosis of any kind. I don't even think doctors would go so far as prescribe a treatment to a patient they had never examined.

He is basically saying, here's what wrong, here's what I think you need to do, here's your prognosis otherwise, and you should go talk to your doctors about doing what I just recommended.

It is baffling that people can get away with this kind of thing just by saying, "Now, remember, I'm a psychic, not a doctor, but..."

This^^^
(except I know his "psychic" abilities aren't real--but he gets a point for referring her back to the Medical Solution..)

Yes I agree. I did not mean to imply that the psychic had any right to be talking to that woman in the first place.
