My dentist killed his wife with a pocket knife (cut her throat) after she stabbed him with a spear.

48 Hours episode.

Dr. Kirk Turner.

I bring it up here because it's interesting. He was found not guilty (self defense) by blood evidence.

The prosecution said he killed her, then stabbed himself twice clean through the thigh with a long spear. Defense says he was attacked and went for the knife in his pocket. The 48 Hours episode is good. It explains the blood evidence.

And I still go to him; he's a great dentist. Although I gotta admit I think of this when he's working on me.

If he puts a spear on your chest I'd run. Just sayin'.

I came to this thread prepared to crack a "at least you still have a good dentist, right?" joke in the style of our inimitable Scrut, but it turns out your truth has superseded my fiction.

Just from the description (haven't followed the links), this sounds like one of the cases Duane Deaver was involved in.

He was also involved in the Michael Peterson case (The Staircase documentary series).

You are brave and/or trying hard to be very fair. Just don't make any gestures that can be interpreted as threatening when you are in the chair.

Don't let him put you under.

The son of my grandfather's lady friend was arrested on "To Catch a Predator." He spent years fighting it, but lost all his arguments and eventually went to jail. Here's the video.

How sad is it that I know exactly what case this is before I even click on anything? IIRC, it was in a barn or something similar. I am going to watch it now.

I had a couple of school acquaintances later convicted of murder. In one case, my dad's former boss was thought to have committed suicide, until they figured out he had shot himself twice in the head and disposed of the gun before setting his car on fire. A few weeks later the guy burglarized a store, shot the watch dog with the same gun, and got caught.

Why would anyone think he committed suicide if there was no body?

I really didn't write that clearly, did I. But I'd be finding a new dentist. We found a new veterinarian one time, after the old one was convicted of child molestation. Didn't have much choice, he was in prison.

When I was in my mid 20s, I learned my fathers first wife* was stabbed to death in their kitchen. I only learned this because when my grandmother died there were many 'True Detective' where she marked things possibly related to the murder. This was pre-internet and it was never mentioned again.

Yesterday, killing time at work, I googled my fathers name + murder and to my surprise and shock, crime site (not the actual body or interiors) photos were uploaded about 5 years ago from USC archives.

My fathers first wife of six months, who was 3-4 months pregnant, was found by him naked on the kitchen floor, brutally stabbed in the breast, with the kitchen knife. There were pictures of the knife, it was about 12" and bent about 3" from the tip because of the force used. She was apparently bound with nylon hose, it still being attached to one wrist. My father immediately ran screaming from the house. The article said he was understandably distraught.

The pictures showed my father in the back yard with police and a neighbor as an attempt to identify him as the killer. My father was exonerated. There were 2 or 3 other similar murders. One suspect was the brother of a then famous performer. The crime has never been solved.

* I never knew he was married before, it was never even hinted at.

Wow. That is quite interesting and kind of creepy, I suppose. I mean it was a long time ago but it was your dad who lived through it all. So he never talked about it?

No. Even when I learned of it in my 20's, it was an offhand comment by my mom, and beyond a few basic questions at the time, it was never mentioned again. I didn't see any upside to dredging this up with my dad.
