So ... been getting cold called by a Stephen Johnson from Dalton Financial wanting to get me to invest through them.

He claims they've bought a million shares in Disney and can offer them to me at below market cost so I can get an instant profit! Less their 1% buy and 1% sell margins of course.

Sounds good!

Strangely, despite claiming to have been in the investment business since 2011, they're website didn't go live until at December 2015 or January 2016 on an expired domain.

More strangely, they're headquarters is at GranTokyo North Tower, 1-9-1 Marunouchi, Chiyoda-ku in Tokyo yet they're not registered with the Japanese FSA. What's with that?

And even more strangely, despite being capitalised enough to purchase 100 million dollars worth of shares in Disney, they're not even mentioned in the financial news at all until this year, just through various private press releases, nor are they listed as a Disney institutional investor.

They've obviously just decided to keep under the radar, what with none of their staff (or the company) having LinkedIn profiles. I like humble companies.

And they've been very complimentary to me, saying lots of nice things about my business savvy, so I think I'll just send Dalton Financial this $10000 to get these can't lose Disney shares! Who's with me? Shall we all pitch in and get some more?

Dalton?
Does this scheme involve flying an old Cesna in to a Central American Republic for the Phoenix Foundation?

So I was checking out the properties on the PDF of their application form, and I noticed it said "Evanson Account Application". Who is Evanson I thought?

Seems they're Evanson Asset Management whose website is amazingly similiar!

Except they're address is -

Evanson Asset Management
Unit A, 16/F CMA Building
64-66 Connaught Road
Central
Hong Kong

And they're listed on the SFC Alert list in Hong Kong as a scam.

I'm starting to get worried. I've just wired them my money.

It will be OK, right?:covereyes

Hey! A friend introduced me to Lucky Luke just last weekend.
It's the flux.

Dalton Financial? Really?

Pretty certain they picked that name for two reasons

(1) There's a real dalton financial
(2) The domain name was available

I was hoping to get one of those UK premium numbers and give them that to call me ...

Or should I tell them my cash is locked up and I need $1000 to pay fees to unlock it so I can wire it to them?

Man, icerat, I wish I was you. Some people seem to get all of the lucky breaks. Your best option, of course, is to use all of your savings to get a giant, highly leveraged loan and buy as many shares of Disney as you can at that price.

I've heard that many financial professionals are crooks and swindlers, but you seem to have a really nice guy on the inside willing to help you. Congrats!

Most people involved with MLM don't have $10,000 to invest.

Or since it's a company in Tokyo, is it 10,000 yen? :D

More likely to involve being a cooler at some dodgy but promising bar out in the sticks, I thought.

Dodgy financial deals are also up Jacks street, I see his name in a thread title I expect a dodgy deal. It OK tjough, Macgyver will keep things straight. If you put your money in he will make sure you get it back.

I'm referring him now to a "business partner with experience in these areas who has authority make investment decisions on my behalf"

This person is actually a friend who has worked as a qualified fraud investigator and also likes to have some fun with them - and if possible might be able to take them down.

popcorn time! :)

There is also an Evanson email in there.

But do google search the images - both Dalton & Evanson pull them from Bloomberg News & various stock-photo vendors.

Just $10k? Sucker.

I've got a Nigerian prince in my pocket who'll wire me two million dollars, once he gets his funds out of the country.

I got a cold call from a Vice President of Meryl Lynch! Funny, it sounded a whole lot like the Veep was calling from a call center.

Just checking in...... looks like everyone is sleeping.....bunch of slug-a-beds!!!!!

So now we know Merrill Lynch is on the skids!!!:jaw-dropp

The call might actually be from Merrill Lynch, and they have indeed been a bit on the skids since 2008. My broker abandoned ship last year, along with his whole team. He was also a vice president, because pretty much all of their brokers are. I'd guess they probably have 10,000 VP's.
