Let's admit it, the West coast and the Northern East Coast states will simply never agree.

We want social democracy and they want Conservative libertarianism.

We want inclusion/diversity/tolerance, while they want white homogenuity and bigotry.

We get in their way, they get in our way.

Why continue this?

Maybe rather than continuing the endless fight, we should just divorce.

California, Oregon, Washington, Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachussets, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Minnesota, secede from the Union and form a new nation or join Canada.

If this happens, the new Liberal/Moderate nation can create the Social Democratic state we want, and the rest of the country can create the Libertarian Conservative Christian White nation they want.

No more extreme obstructionism. We all get to have the countries we always dreamed of.

What say you?

I think it's a stupid, unworkable and half-assed suggestion.

But other than that, no complaints.
 
I say you're ignoring that the real divide isn't between states, it's between urban and rural areas inside each state.

There's nothing we can do about this.

But if the majority of a state's population believes one thing, wants one thing, but this is always prevented by folks in another state, maybe a divorce is logical.

But why do you get to decide the matter along state lines? If political leanings of type X are ignored because they're inside a state border with political leanings of type Z, then why can't we just ignore the states that are type X because they're inside a country that's type Z? You are arbitrarily deciding that national borders don't matter but state borders do. What about counties? Regions? ZIP codes? Congressional districts?
 
Or you field an electable candidate who can articulate a progressive platform that appeals to middle-America without condescension.

You have to get those votes back. Might as well start thinking now.

All the snowflakes, crybabies, and bed-wetter's can take up residence in Canada -- which they have already promised to do. Problem solved.

I wish the OP wasn't pure fantasy but alas. I'm glad to play along though.

If the blue states were to secede, consider what the political climate would be in the Red USA. And they'd have nukes! Having such a neighbor would be a disquieting proposition.

Red USA wouldn't want to lose access to the left coast. I'm willing to grant them a corridor if they hand over the nukes. Think they'll buy in?

Also -- discontiguous regions won't work. Sorry, but the western states are going to have to go it alone.

Why is it every time my political party gets called snowflakes it's by someone whining about my political party? Seems kind of ironic, doesn't it?

Snowflakes is the new "racist". A lame buzz word the right has popped out to show that THEY, not YOU, are the real men. They lift weights, farm, and do man stuff! Like not complain about the President, and grab women by the pussy. You know, like men!
 
I think if something like this happened you'd see more people changing their location to fit their ideology. Obviously there would be many who couldn't for financial or other reasons but right now even is people wanted to move to a state that leans more their way they still are subject to federal laws and regulations that conflict with the majority state ideolology.

I think it would be interesting to allow 2-4 states, half leaning republican half leaning democrat, to ignore federal rules for a period of time, say 10-20 years and at the end see the different results.

Based on the rest of your post, it seems like they do agree. :confused:
 
And opposition parties would pop up in each new country so they would eventually have to split again, and so on until we have 50 countries. Then we join back together and try all over again.

There are opposition parties already there but they have remained solidly blue.

I think the point is that the population of left leaning people in those states is high enough that an opposition party would get about as far as they do now.

Further if right leaning people from those states leave to go to a more right leaning state, and left leaning people from right leaning states left to join those blue states, it would be an even higher majority of the population than now.

I mean sure over a long enough period of time it would probably break down as all things in the universe do.

I'm not sure there's been a lot of thought put into it, but the transition has already started. Instead of calling their political opponents "racists" and "bigots", they're going to start calling them "Nazis" and "fascists." It's a surefire strategy to secure victory in the next election.

Many of these people are neither conservatives nor libertarians (not the same thing) by any traditional standard. They would use the power of government to advance radical goals. Punishing businesses for moving production to lower-cost countries might (maybe) be defensible on some policy grounds, but it's neither conservative nor libertarian. Preventing women from making personal medical decisions privately is neither conservative nor libertarian. Interfering with the right of free association by discouraging union membership is neither conservative nor libertarian. Etc., etc.
 
You know what my dad always says when watching Football (and a favored team is not involved) - "West Coast over east coast". Words to live by. So, no.
 
Not all people living in CA cities are liberal. It is not rural vs urban. Most of the card-carrying crazies live in a few of the big cities and they get all the attention.

Cali wanting to secede is just another indication of how screwed up we are here. Even those other blue states aren't as radical as we are here. San Francisco, Berkeley...

One of the biggest economies in the world, yet we are in debt (ya, we are), have uncontrolled "immigration", terrible public schools, ultra high taxes, and the shining jewel of liberalism for the nation, San Francisco, is a dump. It's disgusting ...dirty, rampant with homeless and crime, and it's so expensive most people can't afford to live there. No hyperbole here - it's gross.

And so is my city, San Jose. No money, not enough cops, bad roads, tent cities, crazy taxes, illegals (sanctuary city, yay).

Seattle - same thing more or less - so I hear.

I could live in Hawaii for what it costs to live here, or I could own property and have a decent life in almost any other part of the country. I was born here otherwise I wouldn't be here. It's hard to move from my family but it's $tupid for me to $tay, so I'm leaving in a year or so.

You think we Californians have a clue about what secession would even mean? We have our collective heads up our butts - most forum members seem to agree with that when Cali makes the news. We're crazy loons. We vote for Brown, Feinstein...

So ya, secession is just another stupid idea dreamed up by the clueless attention seeking "election-crybabies". More great intentions paving the way to hell.

Republicans seem to think the Schrodinger cat experiment applies to just about anything they want.

Schrodinger's Criticism of POTUS/Party - Simultaneously a courageous act by real Americans and crying/whining by special snowflakes

Schrodinger's Immigrants - Simultaneously stealing all our jobs and too lazy to work.

Schrodinger's Government - Simultaneously powerful and smart enough to get away with 3-5 million illegal votes with no proof but stupid enough to put them all in states that wouldn't result in their candidate winning. Also Simultaneously powerful and smart enough to do black flag operations like Sandy Hook, but dumb enough to then publish a picture of the supposedly dead girl sitting alive and well on Obama's lap.

Schrodinger's Laws - Simultaneously useless because lawbreakers don't follow the law anyway, and useful because it stops people from breaking said law.

There are many more so feel free to add your own. I will also say that this isn't exclusive to republicans, they just seem to employ its use more often.
