I remembering hearing ages ago that Spacey was doing a Weinstein with young dude actors and Stage hands for years.

For some one who always seemed like a pretty intelligent bloke, his blatant attempt at diversion is incredibly stupid.

Maybe he is just dumb

Having lived in LA for years, I concur. My ex was an actor (actress, for clarity) and we heard story after story about Spacey pushing actors wanting to be involved with his stage groups to engage in sexual activities with him for a spot. Sexual quid pro quo, as it was. I also have friends on the business side of H'wood who have told me for years that he was considered one of the main 'not what he seems' guys in H'wood (sadly, along with Morgan Freeman, but not for the same reasons). Spacey's good-gut image was just that, an image.
 
I think Spacey bundling his homosexuality with his predatory behavior is pretty reprehensible. The two have nothing to do with each other. If he thinks they do, he's pretty bad at being gay.

I think hopping up on a 14 year old boy already makes him pretty bad at being gay. As I understand it, that's not normal behaviour for teh gayz.

I didn't get the impression he intended to imply they did have anything to do with each other.

The aspect I was torn by was whether he was saying "I don't remember it. That's reprehensible. I guess I was wasted" or "I don't remember it. That's reprehensible. Yeah, I would totally have done that".

Maybe it was both.

I think he is going for the diversionary spray and run away technique

Tacitly mentioning drinking so he can pull out the "I am obviously an alchy. Not my fault. Will go for therapy" if it balloons

The coming out thing hoping it will divert attention from his jerk behavior.

Also he can claim this has been "It's been conflicting me emotionally deciding to come out, causing aggression" if needed. Blame that. Not his fault. Go to therapy

You wrap it all in one parcel and write "Cynical empty excuses for being scum" on it and you pretty much have his attitude

Or... He's pretty typical at being gay. But no, I'll play along. Kevin Spacey is probably an outlier in the Hollywood gay subculture. Just like Harvey Weinstein is probably an outlier. Hollywood is not really like that. Just a few bad apples. Very few. Hardly any of them gay.

I have a friend that is (well, now was) a quasi regular on House of Cards make similar observations. Granted while the actors were young the ones she knew about weren't underage.

Also, iirc, Family Guy had a bit where Stewie (the baby) runs naked through a store yelling "Help! I just escaped Kevin Spacey's house!"

Spacey, gay? Shocker. I don't think he's actually been accused of sexual assault.

In an interview with Buzzfeed, Rapp said Spacey picked him up, put him on his bed and "was trying to get with me sexually" in 1986. Spacey was 26 at the time.

"Get with me sexually" does not equal assault. Maybe he did, or maybe he just tried to talk him into it, but saying it is assault (as CNN did) seems a bit of an assumption at this point. The guys age is another matter.

I always thought Spacey was creepy. In Pay It Forward - I dunno - he's creepy.

I didn't think I'd like him in House Of Cards, but I did.

Anyways, one accuser 30 years later - we'll see how he does compared with the accused rapists Cosby, Weinstein and Clinton. We need a spreadsheet.

That was my premise: there's no reason to tie homosexuality to assault. None. There's no connection and Spacey (in addition to his other faults) shouldn't have implied one.

Unwanted physical contact is probably the bright line here. Physically picking up and carrying a person against their will, putting them in a bed, and literally crawling on top of them expressing a sexual intent, I think can pretty safely be deemed an assault. It's quite decidedly over the line.
 
If, as people in the known seem to suggest, this was less of an one time drunken misbehaviour and instead just a part of a long running abusive and otherwise exploitive behaviour I wouldn't be surprised if more examples become publicly known.

To his defense though he didn't bring up his sexuality unprompted, Rapp explicitly stated that he was irked at least in part by Spacey being closeted. Was he supposed to simply ignore that?

Yup. The good homosexual not only isn't sexually attracted towards anyone under the age of 18, the age when it's nice and wholesome to be lusted over, they'd never ever abuse anyone let alone break the law even when gay sex is completely illegal.

I think it might also be difficult to make movie about a middle-aged guy lusting after his daughter's cheerleader friend and bedding her, especially if you decide to cast Kevin Spacey whose character also has the gall to make a false claim of sexual harassment against his boss.

It would be as crazy as a Louis CK movie about working for a director accused of rape and pedophilia in which one of the characters pretends to jerk off in front of an actress.

Are they even allowed to have teenagers in movies or TV in America these days? I thought that most actors portraying teenagers were at least 22 years old or something like that.

Those were body doubles with the makeup artist. You need to pick other Brooke Shields things to get real underage nudity not simulated.

Well the reasons for that are often practical, the requirements for schooling and such while using child actors puts a hamper on the shooting schedule and so it is far easier to use adult actors.

I assume he meant it along the lines of "I choose to act on my sexual preferences" which presumably includes exploiting desperate and potentially vulnerable young men and teenage boys trying to make it big in Hollywood.

Then again I wouldn't be surprised if his attractiveness and fame would be more than enough to get him any partners of his choosing. Apparently hooking up with some star struck beautiful teenager enthralled by his manliness, something which they could never experience with peers their own age, is just not enough for some people.
