Kanye West for President?

Surely he will take black votes from the Democrats. And he will be able to attract sufficient funds. I’m not sure if West will make the election funnier or more tragic.

It's almost certainly just a publicity stunt. But if he were serious enough to file to get his name on the ballot in any "swing" states, he could possibly draw enough black voters to flip a state, which could affect Biden's chances. But I wouldn't lose sleep over it.

This link has a list of state deadlines and requirements to file to get on the state's ballot as a presidential candidate. The deadline has already passed in several states, and is coming up soon in all others.

Of course, one can run a write-in campaign. But most states have restrictions on that as well.

Anyone who would waste their vote on Kanye West is an idiot.

Yes it’s most likely a stunt, but I can I see drives to get young and disaffected people to vote for West would be more successful than for Biden. It could make a real difference as Biden needs all the help he can get.

No. By now I believe people have found him to be mentally ill. Also, isn't he a Trump lover?
He is a trump lover.

Maybe his idea is to deliberately help trump win by stealing votes that might otherwise go to biden. I guess the big question is... How much popularity does he have in the African American community these days. Enough to swing the results of a close state?

Short answer.....no. What support is he going to get? He has zero chance as a Democrat and less as a Republican.

I know that he has zero chance of winning, but that's not what I mean by spoiler. Ralph Nader was a spoiler in 2000. Jill Stein may have been one in 2016.

In a very tight election, just a small number of votes in a key state can be enough to swing the election.

Apparently you need signatures 1000 or more voters to get on the ballot in most states, depending on the state, so he needs to get organized if he actually intends to be on the ballot in November. Besides the deadline he would need volunteers in each state to go out and gather signatures.

While it would not surprise me at all if this is to help Trump, I don't think we can say he would be "stealing" votes. That would suggest they rightfully belong to Biden in the first place, and nobody's vote rightfully belongs anywhere except where the voter wants to place it.

But if Kanye is doing Trump's bidding, consciously or inadvertently, then what is Elon Musk doing?

The announcement was quickly endorsed by Tesla CEO Elon Musk who tweeted at the 43-year-old, "You have my full support!"

Is Musk having a laugh or is he also (whether consciously or inadvertently) helping Trump?

A lot of people have speculated that Trump’s run was a publicity stunt.

Yeah, except he actually put together a campaign in a timely fashion and obtained the support of a major political party so that his name appeared on ballots. The main reason independent presidential candidates of significance are so rare is because it takes a great deal of effort to get listed on ballots. It requires money, organization, and time; Kanye only has the money.

Yes. Maybe his plan is to grab some votes from people who would have otherwise voted Democrat.

ETA..... Ninja's :o

Is this really what politics in the US is about? It's schoolyard **** with less intelligence.
What would he do if he got in? Rap about it & **** himself because he has less idea than Trump.

Doubtless thanks to celebrity culture he'll get some votes, but my guess is that most of them will be from people who otherwise wouldn't have voted at all rather than taking votes from Biden. Who knows, maybe even some of Trump's voters will vote for him because they they realise West is doing it to support Trump but misunderstand the plan?

I'd say 100% of people who would vote for Yeezus would be Trump voters.

I can't see many Democrat-leaning black voters voting for a guy who thinks slavery was a choice.

I suspect he will go hard on the attack against Biden and then if Biden hits back the Trump friendly media will try and spin it as Biden being racist.

A few votes one way or another can make a difference, as evidenced by MI, PA, WI in 2016.

I don’t get why people automatically think Black people will vote for him. Because he’s Black? Because he’s a rapper? Traditionally, Black people vote like anyone else. That is, they vote for people they think can win and will support policies that help them.
When Hilary Clinton ran primary vs Obama, many Black people supported Clinton because they were more confident she’d be an “acceptable “ candidate for general elections. Similar with Biden.

Maybe it's like when people say the next president, prime minister etc should be a woman, and all the women in the audience cheer and applaud. It's not that the woman mentioned is competent, actually no particular woman is mentioned at all. So the applause are solely for the fact it should be a woman, any woman it seems.

Isn't it accepted that Biden must have a female running mate, regardless of what men are available?

I don't think anyone here really thinks that, I suspect Kanye West is arrogant enough to think that yes Black voters will ignore his track record of supporting Trump, fail to see through this transparent attempt to boost Trump's electoral chances and vote for him.

I don't think that at all. I think that if he wants to, he could play the role of "red herring" for Trump, muddying the presidential race a bit and, though probably a small possibility, possibly pick up a small but significant number of black votes in a swing state and swing it to Trump. Even just a few hundred votes out of several million in a state could make an Electoral College difference.

Again, I think this is really just a silly publicity stunt and will come to nothing.

Celebrities are, by definition, better people than us plebs.

If they want to rule us, it is their right by Right of Notoriety.

The difficult question presented before voters: Which crazy narcissist to vote for? Trump or West?

He's a nut whose wife regularly gets more attention than he does. Kanye wants people talking about him, and that's it.

I think the assumption (right or wrong) is that he has the most fans/most appeal in the young African-American demographic, and as such if he gets ANY votes, it will likely be from fans (which would have a larger percentage of younger black voters than white senior citizens.)
Traditionally, Black people vote like anyone else. That is, they vote for people they think can win and will support policies that help them.
MOST black people probably vote that way. But there is always a chance that there might be a small percentage of voters who do decide to vote based on name recognition. It won't be the majority, or even a significant part of the minority. But in a tight race, a few hundred votes here or there might make a difference.

Look at it this way... millions of people voted for Trump, despite his lack of policies, simply because they knew him from The Apprentice.

If Trump's advisers are on the ball then they would help Kayne West get on the ballot papers.

Another triumph for FPTP/WTA.

Kanye might triumph in the Stupid demographic, and we all know whom that would hit hardest.

However, no-one in their right mind should vote for him. I'm fairly sure this is something he is doing for Trump, in the hope it might collect more of Biden's votes than Trump's.

Interesting possibility, I had not considered. However, I think that West is not competent enough to come up with that thought.
