I have no idea if this belongs in Politics, Social Issues, Technology, or humor.

The Trump team has launched a social media app, named GETTR. Its mission statement?

The platform, called GETTR, advertised its mission statement as “fighting cancel culture, promoting common sense, defending free speech, challenging social media monopolies, and creating a true marketplace of ideas.

From the rumors it's pretty much just twitter v2.0, but kind of looks like an old geocities site, and twitter had a baby. I won't be joining, but I can't figure out what the acronym is supposed to be. Miller is the one running it so I'm sure it's something terrible.

According to the linked article: The name GETTR was inspired by the words “Getting Together.”

I think 4, dance videos would be the most appreciated. It can be the most random of the lot.

News stories of the J6 insurrection arrests might delight them as well.

There's no shortage of these things. They all have the same members and all fall apart for the same reasons.

Well, it looks like the domain, and probably the hosting, is done through godaddy. The DNS services are being done through cloudflare, and the mx records show google is handling the email.

If they don't moderate their content it'll just lead to those companies dropping the platform. As previously mentioned, it's happened before and it can easily happen here.

Gab already exists as a hub for overt white nationalists and fascists. For all the crowing about being anti-censorship, GETTR will probably have to take a pretty stern hand to hold back the most degenerate extreme right wingers unless it wants to just become another barely functional, rarely visited back alley of the internet.

ETA - looks like they shut down an existing Chinese social media site, then repurposed it as a MAGA site. Weird.

In the days leading up to Miller announcing the launch of a MAGA-version of GETTR, several videos appeared on GNEWS and G-TV showing GETTR users how to save their data and eventually upload it to the new platform.

A Twitter user named Dicky Zhang, whose account identifies him as connected to G-TV and GNEWS, also reminded his followers that they needed to back up their GETTR accounts.

“Gettr will officially be launched on July 4th,” he tweeted in English on June 29th. “In order to build it into a multilingual & international platform, we will clear all the data on the platform on June 29th, Eastern US Time, including posts, photos & accounts. Sorry for the inconvenience. Save important information pls.”

I just checked and there is a paid ad at top, and plenty of related articles. Also, the link to the homepage is there.

I can't see this going very far, outside of the fan base...which I believe to be greatly overestimated.

Trump is a freakish looking individual, but a lot of this looks like post processing to me. Looks like the contrast is very high, and maybe sharpening and other settings are maxed out, probably to make the infograph more eye catching.

The paid ads are probably US only, because they're not showing here.

Also, the articles weren't the point of what I said. If you search "twitter", Twitter is the top of the list, while "gettr" isn't showing the actual site. I see it's available at Google Play Store, so my guess is whichever dolt set the site up forgot to include the Google search code in the HTML code.

Exactly the type of noob mistake I'd expect to see.

The person who hacked GETTR, known as JubaBaghdad -- one of the GETTR accounts he hacked was Marjorie Taylor Greene's (she was one of the first to join) -- told an interviewer:

All of the profiles were changed to the one message which read: "@JubaBaghdad was here :) ^^ free Palestine ^^."

According to reports, the accounts were first hacked around 8:30am EST and the majority of the profiles returned to normal by 10am. Insider spoke with user @JubaBaghdad who allegedly claimed responsibility for the hack via a Twitter DM with the outlet. When asked why they decided to target GETTR, they said it was ""just for fun. They should not publish the website before making sure everything, or at least almost everything, is secure," they added. Sun News

It's not hard to imagine a new venture like this having startup woes, right?

There are a ton of valid reasons to bash this effort, but that is pretty low on my list, tbh.
