Will There Be a Liberal Push to Normalize Pedophilia?

For the last two years, I've been publicly speculating that in a few years pedophilia will be the next untraditional sexual practice that Democrats/liberals will push to normalize.

Yes, right now, most Democrats/liberals still condemn pedophilia as perverted and unnatural, but an increasing number of radical Democrats/liberals are arguing that pedophilia should be viewed as a valid and normal sexual orientation. A few far-left "scientists" even argue that pedophiles are "born that way" and that therefore it is wrong to "criminalize" their love lives. Pedophile "rights" groups like the North American Man/Boy Love Association already exist. I freely grant that these people constitute a very small minority of Democrats/liberals, but they are growing in number.

Last week, Democratic Congresswoman Katie Porter (CA) complained at a congressional hearing about LGBTQ rights that calling someone a pedophile is saying they are "a criminal because of their identity," and one of the far-left witnesses at the hearing, Human Rights Campaign president Kelley Robinson, agreed with her, going so far as to say that using the word pedophile to describe someone is "dangerous." You can read about it in this article:

A few years ago, I made the point that the same amoral arguments used to justify same-sex marriage can also be used to justify adult-child marriage. I pointed out that many 11- and 12-year-old girls are more mature and make better decisions than some 18-21-year-old boys, and that therefore there's no logical or scientific reason not to allow a 40-year-old man to marry a 12-year-old girl. After all, "two people who are in love should be able to marry."

I remember when the very idea of same-sex marriage was rejected as repugnant and unthinkable by 99% of Democrats and Republicans alike. In the early days of the gay rights movement, when people expressed the fear that gays would eventually push for gay marriage, gay activists angrily called that claim a "red herring" and a "scare tactic."

Similarly, right now, the overwhelming majority of Democrats/liberals condemn pedophilia and consider the idea of adult-child marriage preposterous. But, as we saw with same-sex marriage, this could change.

Some links on the disturbing trend among radical liberals to push for normalizing pedophilia:

TedX Talk got in hot water when one of their speakers condemned the criminalization of pedophilia and said we need to be more "mature" about pedophilia. The Ted Talk was titled "Pedophilia Is a Natural Sexual Orientation."

In 2021, an Old Dominion University professor said we should make it easier for "minor attracted persons" to come out of the closet

A public school teacher in El Paso, TX, was fired after telling her class not to use the word "pedophile" but to call pedophiles "minor attracted persons."

How many people know that the American Psychological Association published a study that urged psychologists not to assume that sex between nonrelated adults and children is abusive and the children often view the experience as positive. The authors wanted to abandon the term “child sexual abuse” when the children have given consent to sex with adults. They are more in favor of the value neutral term “adult-child sex.” Needless to say, the authors didn't explain how a pre-pubescent child, especially one under the age of 10, has the capacity to consent to having sex with an adult.

The Washington Post wrote a rave review of a play that portrayed pedophiles with "compassion and tolerance."

If liberals follow the same script they used for homosexuality, sooner or later we will start to see more and more plays and movies that portray pedophilia as natural and normal and portray pedophiles as normal people who just have a different sexual orientation than most other people.

Do one about theft now.

Some people are just natural born thieves, surely as deserving of respect as anyone else. So it can only be a matter of time before they call for that to be legalised.

What's next?

Probably not because unlike gay marriage, child marriage is already a long standing right wing value.

Just the last two years? That puts you a few decades behind other Conservatives, at least.
"If men are allowed to marry other men and women are allowed to marry other women, it won't be long until people are allowed to marry animals, family members, or children" has been around for a long time.

As others have said - no.

Back in the 80's the pedophiles tried to get accepted as a cause by the gay movement but nobody would wear it.

One or two people will carelessly say things that could be interpreted as trying to normalise pedophilia and the right will trumpet it through their twin megaphones, Fox News and Twitter.

It seems to be figured beloved by the right, like Milo Giannopoulos and Camille Paglia who have lent support to child abusers.

Paglia was very insistent that gay men should embrace pedophilia, that it was part of our heritage. We didn't fall for it.

Can you give any evidence at all that this happened? I was heavily involved in gay rights and I don't recall that ever being said. There were some gays who didn't want same sex marriage because it was "aping the institution's of our oppressors" but they were a minority.

I don't recall a time ever when we didn't want our relationships to be recognised and respected.

Fear porn fail. Drawing an equivalence between consenting adults and children is disingenuous. The old trope of extending the acceptance of interracial and then homosexual relationships to soon include pedophilia is just stupid. Other than that small number of the afflicted, the normal adult instinctively recoils at the notion.

Any rejection of the "pedo" label by the Left derives from the Right's ready use of it when smearing everyone as 'groomers.'

Indeed, one would be forgiven for thinking, "Methinks he doth protest too much," when the Rightist bleats and blares incessantly on the matter, performatively wringing hands and rending garments.

Do you see how this sentence might be quoted out of context to make it sound like you were advocating for pedophilia?

They would only be doing the same thing to you as you are doing to others.

When JoyceForSenate is one of your citations, that's a red flag that you're foisting BS. As if it wasn't already obvious.

Liberal sexual mores are based around consent. Children cannot give consent. It's one of those things that makes them children.

A push to normalize pedophilia is more likely to come from the right. They are the ones saying ten-year-olds can have children of their own...

I can see someone making the same ******** slippery slope argument about interracial marriage.

What's funny to me is that people in the "good old days", when having consensual sex with another adult of the same gender was considered a crime, thought nothing of sending a 12 year old onto a battlefield carrying a drum.

And those people were right. They would think things have continuously degenerated since interracial marriage

I am not going to bother with much here, since I think Bob the Coward and others have it pretty well covered, but I will just say that the OP argument sounds a lot like the shrill faux rage we here in Vermont had to put up with over civil unions, and that was over 20 years ago.

Surely there must be something better to do with one's time.

No. The idea is ridiculous except for the nutters in the right. Unless you're merely projecting...

We recognize pedophilia as a condition, a paraphilia like the 40-odd others known to researchers. We do not know the causation, so far as I know, and I’ve read a lot about paraphilia.
Some are quite harmless…. Mere sexual “kinks”, but others are powerfully compulsive and can destroy lives.
We should differentiate between being attracted to “minors” and being attracted to young children.
There is a long history of this… I don’t think it can be denied. The sexualization of minors is part and parcel of many societies for centuries. Our notions of the proper age for sexual behavior are relatively modern…. All those old blues tunes about “sweet young things” were very common….

But in contemporary society we have the notion of consent, and that only persons of a certain age can give that consent. That doesn’t eliminate the attraction…..

So… “Normalize”? I think we can recognize this as a condition, that we can accept that such people are attracted to minors…. But it’s essentially impossible to normalize as other people (the minor) are involved and cannot ethically consent.

What Katie Porter said was that labeling a gay person a pedophile or a groomer simply because they are gay is wrong. She was not saying that calling a pedophile a pedophile is wrong.

The idea is to float the notion that liberalism is so God-awful that it will wreck America, and probably western civilization too.

Some critics of liberalism, not content to point out what one might see as bad domestic and foreign policies, have upped the ante and veered off in conspiracy theory land.

Once there the game becomes detached from reality and highly competitive. Woe be the poor critic who wants to write about interest rates, infrastructure or any other mundane subject.

So we get pizzagate, charges of porn in the libraries, replacement theory, book banning, protests against non-existent CRT instruction in schools, censoring drag queens, the dems supporting pedophilia. . . .and on and on. . .

Frankly, the ruse is so stupid that it's an insult to those who push it and those who believe it.

There is already a push to normalize it in the sense that this is being labeled as a birth condition, like other sexual preferences. Part of the way the desires are being normalized is the differentiation being made between those who act on such "natural" desires, and those who don't. "Minor-attracted person" is not a fringe label, from what I can tell.

I think we are practically there already, in the minds of liberals. Their main objection seems only to only be with those who act upon the impulses. Many seem sympathetic, otherwise. Of course with the increased liberal push for the sexualization of children, it is hard to say when their objections might gradually begin to erode.

There is a thread here dedicated to comedy.

From your linked Wiki:

Pedophilia emerges before or during puberty, and is stable over time. It is self-discovered, not chosen. For these reasons, pedophilia has been described as a disorder of sexual preference, phenomenologically similar to a heterosexual or homosexual orientation.

Exactly as I stated.

Since when is calling something a disorder normalizing it?

I don't think you understand what the word "phenomenologically" means?

When you state that something is a naturally-occurring birth condition, you are well on your way to normalizing the condition. The fact that it is being place on the same continuum as heterosexuality and homosexuality makes this very clear.

Homosexuality was also classified as a mental disorder in the US, until 1973.

Document your claims please.

That's not what the articles say. That's what you say they say.

Thus you prove my original point that some liberal bashing has become detached from reality.

There seems to be no indication of any sort that the idea of identifying this as a disorder rather than as a moral failing has anything to do with making the behavior socially acceptable. Moral panic is simpler, and running around like chicken little is good exercise I suppose, but reality is more relaxing.

The attempt to portray acceptance of child molestation as the "next logical step" to accepting non-hetero-normative sexual behavior has been a go-to slippery slope appeal for as long as I can remember, and I remember at least back to the late '70s.

Nearly 50 years on, and it hasn't happened, nor is it imminently going to happen. Y'all homophobes need a new talking point.

What in your view should be the main objection?

It's flat out surreal to suggest that thoughts are more objectionable than actions. And then you top it off by foisting this highly asinine notion as a partisan gotcha. How bizarre.

No. We should differentiate between attraction and acting on that attraction.

No, you are on your way to understanding it so that psychologists, social workers, and society in general can better identify and treat the condition.

Knowing how/why something happens doesn't mean you will accept something as 'normal', and is a lot more useful than just simply saying "It's bad, m'kay?".
