I just received an email pointing out this article, in which a mother states that Browne has so far been substantially correct in reading she did for her on a Montel Williams show:

Remembering life and death: Murder victim’s mother plans memorial

Here's a partial quote:

Horman isn't giving up hope that the case will be solved. Last fall on national television, a well-known psychic assured the Frederick woman it would be.

"There's a new sheriff on the case, and there's a new state's attorney," Horman said Friday.

"So far, she's (psychic Sylvia Browne) been right about what she told me," Horman said, referring to her appearance on "The Montel Williams Show" in New York and a phone conversation they had later.

Browne told her who killed her son and why. She told her the detective assigned to the case would change.

"His death was over money and drug-related," Horman said last fall after returning from the taping.

She shared the psychic's tips with detectives and prosecutors, but declines to reveal critical information to others.
If one of you lex-nex researchers cares to pull up the Montel reading, I'd be interested.

I'm on it! It's from the same episode as the one where she brags about the Ski Mask Rapist and calls him Salazar. Give me a few more minutes.

Crap, for some reason I can't get the transcript. All I can get is this:

Montel: YOU CAN FIGURE IT OUT FROM THERE. A LOT OF GUESTS WHO COME IN TODAY WHO REALLY HAVE SOME UNSOLVED QUESTIONS THEY'D LIKE SOME ANSWERS TO. ONE OF THEM CAME IN BECAUSE SHE'S DESPERATE TO FIND OUT WHO BRUTALLY MURDERED HER SON ON HIS 21st BIRTHDAY. >> HORRIBLE. >> Montel: TAKE A LOOK AT THIS. >> HORRIBLE. >> MY SON JOSHUA WAS A GREAT KID. GROWING UP, HE LOVED TO PLAY SPORTS. HE WAS THE TYPE OF PERSON THAT WOULD HELP OUT ANYONE. AND I HAD THE BEST RELATIONSHIP WITH HIM. JULY 2nd, 2003 WAS JOSHUA'S 21st BIRTHDAY. SHOULD HAVE BEEN A DAY OF CELEBRATION. WHEN IT WAS THE WORST DAY OF MY LIFE. MY SON WAS MURDERED IN HIS APARTMENT. AND THE POLICE HAVE NO LEADS. THEY DISCOVERED MY SON'S BODY AND THEY FOUND HIM LYING ON THE FOYER INSIDE THE FRONT DOOR. AND HE WAS BOUND WITH DUCT TAPE. HIS HANDS, HIS FEET, AND HIS MOUTH AND EYES WERE COVERED WITH DUCT TAPE. HIS THERMOSTAT WAS TURNED DOWN SO THEY HAVE NO TIME OF DEATH. THE CASE IS STILL OPEN. WHO WAS HIS KILLER? WHERE ARE THEY NOW? WHAT CLUES COULD HELP SOLVE THIS

Here it is:

TERRY, SAYS HER SON WAS MURDERED ON HIS 21ST BIRTHDAY: My son, Joshua, was a great kid. Growing up, he loved to play sports. He was the type of person that would help out anyone. And I had the best relationship with him. July 2nd, 2003 was Joshua's 21st birthday. Should have been a day of celebration. Well, it was the worst day of my life. My son was murdered in his apartment. And the police have no leads. They discovered my son's body and they found him lying on the foyer inside the front door, and he was bound with duct tape. His hands, his feet and his mouth and eyes were covered with duct tape. The thermostat was turned down and so they have no time of death. The case is still open. Who was his killers? Where are they now? What clues could help solve his case? We need Sylvia's help.

END VIDEO CLIP

MONTEL WILLIAMS, HOST: Please welcome Terry to the show.

APPLAUSE

MONTEL WILLIAMS, HOST: Hi, Terry. Wait, now, at the time, your son was living alone, correct?

TERRY, SAYS HER SON WAS MURDERED ON HIS 21ST BIRTHDAY: Yes.

MONTEL WILLIAMS, HOST: He's living by himself.

TERRY, SAYS HER SON WAS MURDERED ON HIS 21ST BIRTHDAY: Mm-hmm.

MONTEL WILLIAMS, HOST: But you made a comment, and most people around him, most of his friends--everybody says he's one of the nicest guys in the world. He had no enemies.

TERRY, SAYS HER SON WAS MURDERED ON HIS 21ST BIRTHDAY: Right.

MONTEL WILLIAMS, HOST: But he--and I hate to say it this way, but sometimes, Sylvia, you know, it's like we don't know until after the fact...

SYLVIA BROWNE: Exactly.

MONTEL WILLIAMS, HOST: If there could have been enemies.

SYLVIA BROWNE: Yeah.

MONTEL WILLIAMS: For somebody to do this, this was an execution.

SYLVIA BROWNE: Actually, I was just gonna say execution style.

MONTEL WILLIAMS, HOST: Mm-hmm.

TERRY, SAYS HER SON WAS MURDERED ON HIS 21ST BIRTHDAY: Yeah.

MONTEL WILLIAMS, HOST: So the question is?

TERRY, SAYS HER SON WAS MURDERED ON HIS 21ST BIRTHDAY: Who did this? Who would wanna do this to him.

SYLVIA BROWNE: The main perpetrator in that area, there was somebody by the name of--but the main perpetrator is a gang person by the name of--this was a drug-related case. Are you aware of that?

TERRY, SAYS HER SON WAS MURDERED ON HIS 21ST BIRTHDAY: Yes. Yes.

SYLVIA BROWNE: Yeah. But it definitely was drug-related.

TERRY, SAYS HER SON WAS MURDERED ON HIS 21ST BIRTHDAY: Was--was money involved? Did my son owe money?

SYLVIA BROWNE: Yes.

TERRY, SAYS HER SON WAS MURDERED ON HIS 21ST BIRTHDAY: He did? He did owe money?

SYLVIA BROWNE: For at least six months, they kept giving him warnings.

TERRY, SAYS HER SON WAS MURDERED ON HIS 21ST BIRTHDAY: Oh.

SYLVIA BROWNE: But he didn't think anybody was gonna go through with it.

TERRY, SAYS HER SON WAS MURDERED ON HIS 21ST BIRTHDAY: Right.

MONTEL WILLIAMS, HOST: Was this one of those kind of crimes where they were trying to send a message to other people also?

SYLVIA BROWNE: Oh, absolutely. But you see, what made these kids crazy...

MONTEL WILLIAMS, HOST: He's made the press crack everywhere?

TERRY, SAYS HER SON WAS MURDERED ON HIS 21ST BIRTHDAY: Oh, yeah.

MONTEL WILLIAMS, HOST: And the way he was murdered made it...

SYLVIA BROWNE: What makes me crazy is, he wasn't wearing gloves. -Now, I don't know how much duct tape. But what I know from police and forensics...

MONTEL WILLIAMS, HOST: You can get it.

SYLVIA BROWNE: ...duct-yeah, you can get prints from duct tape.

MONTEL WILLIAMS, HOST: So you think there are still prints on the evidence that exist?

SYLVIA BROWNE: I know there is. I know there is. Unless they screwed it up.

MONTEL WILLIAMS, HOST: If you want somebody to go back and do a forensic test of the evidence, possibly you might be able to see if you can come up with a name.

TERRY, SAYS HER SON WAS MURDERED ON HIS 21ST BIRTHDAY: There is--so you're saying--is there anything of his that was--he was robbed, too. All of his...

SYLVIA BROWNE: Sure. Because they wanted the money he owed 'em.

TERRY, SAYS HER SON WAS MURDERED ON HIS 21ST BIRTHDAY: Is there anything left behind that--like his guitar was stolen.

SYLVIA BROWNE: No. But they also took a watch.

TERRY, SAYS HER SON WAS MURDERED ON HIS 21ST BIRTHDAY: Yes, they did take a watch.

SYLVIA BROWNE: I know they did. But also, I would look at the local pawnshops, because then you're gonna find that somebody by the name-this short, burly blonde-haired guy that wears a red fireman kerchief around his head. Go through-you know, all the time.

MONTEL WILLIAMS, HOST: Into the pawnshop.

SYLVIA BROWNE: Into the pawnshop.

MONTEL WILLIAMS, HOST: They probably have a record of him signing something over.

SYLVIA BROWNE: Sure.

TERRY, SAYS HER SON WAS MURDERED ON HIS 21ST BIRTHDAY: Okay. Do you feel that his case is gonna be solved?

SYLVIA BROWNE: Yeah. I think if you go back to the police--I mean, the police know--they know the names of gangs and everything.

MONTEL WILLIAMS, HOST: Not that your son's death is not...

SYLVIA BROWNE: Horrifying.

MONTEL WILLIAMS, HOST: ...a reason, and horrifying. But he wasn't a big trafficker. He wasn't...

SYLVIA BROWNE: No.

TERRY, SAYS HER SON WAS MURDERED ON HIS 21ST BIRTHDAY: No.

MONTEL WILLIAMS, HOST: ...a dealer. He's not a person that they need to solve this for tomorrow.

SYLVIA BROWNE: No.

TERRY, SAYS HER SON WAS MURDERED ON HIS 21ST BIRTHDAY: No.

SYLVIA BROWNE: But Montel's right. This is, so let's make an example. You owe me $2.20, I'll make an example of you.

TERRY, SAYS HER SON WAS MURDERED ON HIS 21ST BIRTHDAY: Now, has he crossed over?

SYLVIA BROWNE: Oh, God, he was gone right away.

TERRY, SAYS HER SON WAS MURDERED ON HIS 21ST BIRTHDAY: And what does he--what does he trying to tell me as a mom 'cause I had...

SYLVIA BROWNE: That he's all right. That he's made it fine.

TERRY, SAYS HER SON WAS MURDERED ON HIS 21ST BIRTHDAY: 'Cause I haven't seen him. I haven't seen him.

SYLVIA BROWNE: No, but he says he makes a breeze blow through. You'll get a chill or a breeze.

MONTEL WILLIAMS, HOST: Okay? All right. Yes, ma'am. You had a question for Sylvia?

It would be interesting to dig up press coverage of this case that appeared before the Montel appearance.

I still wonder about hot reading in some of these instances?

She does a few cold readings and then refer to the police. Actually, I think the police is the best bet to solve the case...

So let's just do a diary of events here:

4-July-2003: The Herald-Mail publicly reports details of the death and investigation. Full details are on the InterTube.

14-Sep-2006: Sylvia on Montel waffles on about it.

So... What are the odds of a hot-reading??

So what did she get right?
The main perpetrator in that area, there was somebody by the name of--but the main perpetrator is a gang person by the name of--this was a drug-related case. Are you aware of that?
She let on that she knew the name of the murderer, then asked if they were aware that it was a drug-related case. This is a safe guess, given the circumstances of the murder. (21 year old male victim bound with duct tape and shot to death.) Remember "drug-related" covers an awful lot of ground, everything from a drug deal gone bad to either the victim or the murderer was high at the time.

In fact, it was a no lose shot the way she worded it. If she's right and they say "yes" she has offered an utterly useless fact (useless in that it was already known). If they say no, she'll just insist that it was drug-related even though they aren't aware, and odds are no one will be able to prove otherwise.

So her second shot was about money--another safe guess given his age, and so on:
TERRY, SAYS HER SON WAS MURDERED ON HIS 21ST BIRTHDAY: Was--was money involved? Did my son owe money?

SYLVIA BROWNE: Yes.

TERRY, SAYS HER SON WAS MURDERED ON HIS 21ST BIRTHDAY: He did? He did owe money?

SYLVIA BROWNE: For at least six months, they kept giving him warnings.

TERRY, SAYS HER SON WAS MURDERED ON HIS 21ST BIRTHDAY: Oh.
Sounds like the mother denied knowing anything about money being owed and warnings being give, and Sylvia insists that it was, but the mother doesn't know about it. So here we see what Sylvia does when a guess is wrong--just insists that it's right, and the readee doesn't know about it yet.

So the mother basically said that the son's guitar was stolen--I'm not sure what she was asking about something left behind. Cued by the info given about the stolen guitar, Sylvia got a lucky guess on the watch (again, pretty high odds if we know already the murderer stole things; also, if the mother denied it, Sylvia'd just say yes it was stolen, but you don't know about it).

Twice she let on that she knows a name, but didn't come out with it.

Overall, the information from this reading was worth exactly nothing in "helping" police to solve the case.

Oh yeah--the stuff with fingerprints on the duct tape--she also covered her ass on that one: either there are fingerprints on it and she claims a big hit, or there weren't and she claims the police screwed it up. There is no way for her to be proven wrong.

You hit it right on the head I think; the ONLY way there could be even a shread of credibility to this is if she had/has no prior knowledge of the guests.

From the transcript, and all she does is parrot Montel, the guest, or already well known facts.
