UK parliamentary science committee under threat

Have a look at this exchange in the Commons. One of the side effects of Gordon Brown's reshuffle could well be the relegation of science within the government. Specifically, the excellent Science and Technology Committee could well be disbanded. Parliament goes into recess on 26th July, so please write to your MPs to oppose this move.

Let me put on the record the great value that the Government attach to the work of the Committee and the positive and constructive spirit in which its work has been conducted under the leadership of both the hon. Gentleman and his distinguished predecessor. Whatever arrangements are proposed through the usual channels, I hope that value will be recognised and reflected in future arrangements, and that there will be the opportunity and ability for science to be examined right across government. I believe that that is important, but I would direct hon. Members to the usual channels."
