They thumb their nose at the UN. "I don't give a damn," they say.

I'll give them this: they are perhaps the firt country to admit this [though certainly not the first to practice it].

I must admit I don't blame them for not giving a damn. It's not like the UN has real teeth or anything.

This too shall be interesting.

For now, while they still have nose's and thumbs

Well, it isn't the UN that's going to cut-off either. They are quite limp.

I recommend the U.S. disassociate itself with it completely, or at the very least, boot them out of the U.S. completely. Microsoft could make much better use of the very prime real estate.

If they want us to remain as a member, they should pay us.

The NSA and the CIA would probably dissagree. In any case you make not like the UN but some single meating place for all goverments is needed.

Narr: In the meantime, the world wants to deal with dangerous individuals their own way.

Kim: Hans Brix? Oh, no... Oh, herro, great to see you again, Hans.

Hans: Mr. II, I was supposed to be allowed to inspect your palace today, and your guards won't let me into certain areas.

Kim: Hans, Hans, Hans. We've been through this a dozen times. I don't have any weapons of mass destruction, okay, Hans?

Hans: Then let me look around so I can ease the U.N.'s collective mind.

Kim: Hans, you're breaking my barrs here. Hans, you're breaking my barrs.

Hans: I'm sorry, but the U.N. must be firm with you. Let me see your whole palace or else.

Kim: Or else what?

Hans: Or else we will be very, very angry with you. And we will write you a letter telling you how angry we are.

:D LOL

I'm still confused on the whole thing. Is it anyone's business if someone is nuclear? Do we really need to have the UN snoop around to ease whatever?

Who cares if Iran has weapons? We have them, the US has them, everyone has them.

What is the history here? Did someone sign something at the UN level, saying they wouldn't have them? Is there some world law stating only some countries can have them?

What am I missing here?

Sure, I might get nervous if someone has nuclear weapons, but who is anyone to say someone can't have them??

I know saddam promised not to have them because he was naughtily attacking defensive neighbours, but what about Iran and the rest?

Well haveing people from all those countries probably makes it an intelligance source of some use for the CIA.

As for the other part it is always useful to make it easy for countries to talk to each other. It means wars are generaly deliberate rather than due to missunderstandings.

Nuclear equiped countries have the capacity to do a lot of damage

Canada does not have it's own nuclear weapon program

Iran has sighned the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty

The Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty

Countries generaly take steps to protect themselves. A nuclear equiped Iran is a serious threat.

You know, that's a darn good question. I also wonder if there was some sort of "We won't have nukes in our country" treaty or something that the countries that signed it would be expected to adhere to.

Can't be though now that I think about it. People'd be waiving it around all over the place - especially at the U.N. if that were true. I bet they made everyone like, promise they wouldn't develop any but they didn't write anything down. And you know, Iran "kings Xed" it. I bet they were all like, "Hey! Iran-guy. How come you got one hand behind your back? No, I want to see both hands. Wait, somebody check his toes. Oh yeah! Real mature pal."

Thank you! I have to go look up that stuff and try to learn something today.

Canada has nukes, don't we? What??

Non-nuclear-weapon States Parties undertake not to acquire or produce nuclear weapons or nuclear explosive devices. They are required also to accept safeguards to detect diversions of nuclear materials from peaceful activities, such as power generation, to the production of nuclear weapons or other nuclear explosive devices. This must be done in accordance with an individual safeguards agreement, concluded between each non-nuclear-weapon State Party and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). Under these agreements, all nuclear materials in peaceful civil facilities under the jurisdiction of the state must be declared to the IAEA, whose inspectors have routine access to the facilities for periodic monitoring and inspections. If information from routine inspections is not sufficient to fulfill its responsibilities, the IAEA may consult with the state regarding special inspections within or outside declared facilities.

Are you telling me we've spent all this time being nice to them for no reason?

Historicaly they supplied you with much of your weapons grade material (they also supplied india but we don't talk about that).

Canada could have nukes within a couple of years if it wanted to.

Yeah, heh, most Canucks don't even know about india *tries to forget*.

And yeah, we don't want to be like the Iranians, so we won't make our own nukes and follow the rules, cause we're nice peaceful folk...

(#&$#@!
