Question about Symantec Live Update?

Well, it doesn't work so I guess what I really want to know is if anyone knows how to completely uninstall Symantec products? I hate Norton Internet Security, the live update won't update no matter what "remedy" I try from the Symantec site, and I read some antivirus recommendations here about AVG which sounded as if it may be a really good and free(!) antivirus program that I'd love to try. But I can't get the __________ Norton Internet Security (with Antivirus and the unworkable Live Update) to leave my computer

I know I was very stupid in putting this product on my computer to begin with. It was through my internet service provider (monthly) so I made the regretable decision to install. Now I only want to cancel the damn thing and get it off my computer.

Sorry for the rant. Any advice would be deeply appreciated.

This page has links to instructions for removing various Symantec "products." All I can say is Good Luck! I've been using Trend Micro PC-cillin for about a year now with no complaints.

You need the SymNRT tool.

You will need to delete the norton folders in your programs directory after reboot.

Thank you (both of you) for the wonderful advice. Now I'll finally put an end to my Norton Internet Security/LiveUpdate/Symantec, et al nightmares.

Been there, done that. God knows why they can't make their products work after all these years.

I feel so stupid. But the removal tool worked, everything Symantec has been banished forever from my computer, and I'm trying out AVG (for free). A free product; it installed like a dream without any of the freeze-ups, install-uninstall-reinstall so famous from Symantec (in my experience anyway). The free AVG did a virus scan much quicker than my Norton AntiVirus ever did. My computer is running quicker. I'm amazed. If this keeps up, I'll have to purchase an upgrade because I feel guilty that I don't have to pay for such a wonderful, user friendly program. And I read about it here.

So now a big kiss off to all things Symantec One huge waste of my time and my money.
