Breaking News: Police Arrest Suspect in JonBenet Ramsey Case

If you asked me three minutes ago I would have said that's one case that will never get solved. This should be interesting to see what develops. Hopefully this is the bastard who did it.

What's so sad, if this story proves to be true and the real killer has been caught, is that the little girl's mother died two months ago, thinking her name might never be cleared.

I used to follow this case with a lot of interest. I never felt that the parents did it and was very sorry to see how suspicions and conspiracies trashed what life they had left.

I hope this is the real deal and this will finally be solved. Wow.

From the article:
In 2003 a federal judge dismissed a lawsuit against the Ramseys, blaming the police and the FBI for bungling the investigation.

Yes, the police and FBI certainly did bungle the case...

I read the book The Cases that Haunt Us, by former FBI criminal profiler John Douglas. He has a chapter in the book that discusses the Ramsey case, and points to many ways in which the killing did NOT fit the profile of a parental homicide.

Some of the screwups in the case:
- There was DNA discovered with the body, but it took YEARS before the DNA was forward to the FBI labs. (It may not have been usable, it still should have been examined anyways)
- There were marks that looked like those left by a stun gun... the Ramsey family did not have one of those
- Inaccurate and incomplete information was leaked to the press, leading to an over-emphasis of the Ramseys as suspects

Oh, and should we start a count down before the first Psychic claims that they had solved the case before the police?

That's true. This I did not know:

Patsy Ramsey died in June of ovarian cancer. She was 49.

And both of 'em were under heavy suspicion -- at one point even the little brother was suggested of being in on it.

And now, the Beerina(r) Cynical Thought of the Day(tm): Looks like Greta's finally got some new material for the next eight months!

There names will never be cleared...largely thru their own actions. They may one day, no longer be accused of casuing this crime, but I dont think the stonewalling and three card monty-ing of the family will be forgotten so soon

and, what about the practice note the Mom had been working on? I never saw a dismissal of that one. (If you did please note when/where)

Not to mention the absurd incompetence of the police on the scene before and after the body was discovered. The Boulder police have very little direct experience with major violent crime, which says something nice about Boulder, but they should know the basics anyway.

You could say that, but then looking in hindsight at how they were hounded by the police and the prosecutor, it does make at least a little sense that they would have moved to protect themselves.

Agreed. Your daughter is murdered and the police come in, mishandle the crime scene and then begin asking you questions clearly intended to paint you as suspects. You're innocent.

Your next step should be to get a lawyer. And yet taking that step will irrevocably tar you in the press as being guilty.

One of my first thoughts when hearing this was why did it take it 10 years to solve this crime with all the helpful suggestions from the psychics? I'd love to see a list of all the failed psychic predictions regarding this case.
