It's official, Trump is the nominee. He was put over the top by his home state of New York, which will go for Clinton in November. Irony is delicious.
Thread was getting big again, and this seemed to be a good break point. The old thread is here.

They removed all other candidates from consideration. Even DC where he got ~15% of the vote and earned 0 delegates had all their delegates forcefully assigned to him. They're whistling past the graveyard trying to hide the underlying frustrations in the party over this.

Not that it mattered, but how the hell can the RNC do that??????
THe way the RNC is kissing the butt of Trump is digusting a lot of Republicans, guaranteed. The attempts to hide the divisions in the party are idiotic. I would not be surprised if this Republican National Committee is judged to be on of the most inept in Ameican Political History.

I think they had their delegates replaced with alternates after yesterday's revolt. Trying to find a story on this. Colorado might be in the same boat seeing the decrease in delegates for Cruz.

You seem to forget that the officers who beat King were acquitted,

[History Lesson]Common knowledge, and wrong. The common narrative is that the video shows four officers beating Rodney King. What it actually shows is 1 officer beating Rodney King while 3 watched. There may have been an occasional blow by one of the others during periods when they were attempting to subdue, but for the most part, one officer was beating him.

The four officers were tried together. Three were acquitted. One, the one who was beating Rodney King, had a hung jury.[/History Lesson]

ETA: Just watched the video for the first time in probably 20 years. I think you could reasonable say that two of the officers were beating him. Although one a lot more than the other. I had also forgotten that there were more than four officers present.

I predict that some real dirt is going to emerge about the RNC conduct during the Roll Call.
National Review, one of the foremost conservative magazines, called it "Third World Dictatorship Tactics".Oh, the party is really united.

Placating Donald's ego comes at a high price.

When I saw the split screen on TV this morning I laughed so hard and long I scared the **** out of my dog. Probably never saw me laugh like that.

When they showed all of the Trump people denying it and downplaying it, I was literally crying.

Amazing, what a bunch of incompetent idiots.

What does that tell you about how Trump would run the Government.

I think only incompetent people are willing to work for this guy, all of the people I see shilling for him on TV seem like airheads, a world where superficiality and intentions are believed to be better than substance and due diligence because it makes them feel better to think they can do no wrong.

It will never happen, but if someone made a movie where it's imagined that Trump won the election, that would be hilarious.

THing is apparently very few of Trump;s people have political experience, and scorne those who do.

Kind of like natural health woos in regards to academic establishment training.

That's the approach in a nutshell in arriving at Donald for a candidate. Modern medicine hasn't cured cancer. Let's try rubbing feces on it.

It appears the speakers at the RNC are no different than the right wingers here, in that they have few positive things to say about Trump and believe their only hope is to make HRC seem worse.

Are they afraid the people who hate Hillary Clinton demographic is going to vote for Hillary?

I nominated that since it will become a theme in my brain while reading the news from now on.

I can only add that they are clearly delusional about their ability to control him and that he'll tone it down and they'll be able to get to him. So far how's their projections this will happen working out for them? Sad.

Well it was probably time for Trump to trade her in for a newer model anyway.

ProTip: Melanija, do not let him travel to rallies in Nevada. Divorce there is instantaneous. He could dump you and have his next mail-order bride in place in time for a mid-October wedding.

I am not a republican, but also not a democrat so just the facts please.

Apparently it is the largest victory in republican primary history, in the largest field of candidates that ever ran. So sure, the party looks really fractured, lol.

Trump surprised me right out of the gate, before primaries even started he was going to deport 11 million Mexicans or something and for me his statements on torture were a dealbreaker. I did call him a buffoon, I don't watch TV so I don't know about him that way. But after watching him smashing the field in the primaries and defying every establishment effort to beat him - God, the money they spent! You just have to admit the guy is king kong.

I think he is going to destroy Clinton in the general election.

You don't know what you're talking about. Trump got like 44% of the primary votes. Fewer than any recent nominee. Furthermore, polls indicate that most Republicans are not satisfied with him as the nominee.

Short part of Bill Mahre the other night:

Donald Trump kept the box Melania came in so he could ship her back when she turns 50 :D

Fox, in one of their now-standard moments of brilliance in this turd-polishing project, had an arch conservative on from New York. They were talking about the, um, inconvenient seating allotted to the Ohio delegation in the far rear. The home team's slate is usually front and center. More important, Trump is still trying to convince Ohio that he's a better purchase than Kasich.

Said the loyal conservative: "Ohio is a swing state. Trump needs Ohio. They put us [NY] up front and center and Ohio in the nosebleed section. That makes no sense; he's not going to carry New York in November, and he needs Ohio."

Six people tried to talk over him when he started to utter, "...not going to carry..", but he got ".... New York in November" out before they could change the topic. Poor things... they're trying their best not to mention any of the state polls but keep referring to the worst barometer - the national popularity polls - as though they mean something.

Pretty interesting spin for "not a Republican". Here's another YUGE first that you won't see Donald bragging about. The largest number of delegates not voting for the party's anointed candidate since Ford beat Reagan's challenge back.
And how'd Ford do in that election against Carter? Can anyone recall.

I don't believe you. Because you've prefaced your remarks with this on many of your posts and you immediately start pumping up Trump and attacking Clinton. EVERY TIME.

Not even close. In fact, the opposite may just very well be true. I think you would have to go back to 1976 when Ronald Reagan gave Gerald Ford a scare. You HAVE to stop listening to Trump, he exaggerates. Or haven't you noticed?

It surprised me too. I have often thought many in the Republican party are nuts but the party has always had a somewhat sensible leadership. But it's clear that years of crazy right wing radio and FAUX News has taken the party off the cliff. They created a monster and now the monster is in control. Trump just took advantage of it by saying the crazy things that have dominated that media for so long.

I think he is going to destroy Clinton in the general election.

I'd bet you on that. 44 percent of the Republican primary vote is 5 percent of the total General Election vote.

FEC paperwork is due today. So we will see how much money Donald raised in June and if he really forgave loans he made to his campaign like he claimed. I doubt it.

I'm interested to see how much cash he has on hand. I'm guessing $6.95, a half-box of Twinkies and a two-liter of Diet Mountain Dew.
I would not be surprised at all if he used virtually all the money he raised to pay back loans he made to his campaign.

As I understand the rules, he can't use money raised after he officially becomes the nominee to pay off his primary loans. He could use the money he raised up until then, though. And I wouldn't be surprised, either, if he's done exactly that.

He still has twenty days after yesterday to pay himself back.

He can't be that stupid. I get his dedicated base of racists won't care but the Republican party would have to cut off all ties with him to save face. If that happens, it's indisputable evidence that he's just conned them.

Oh I think he can be that stupid. And greedy. I'm not sure if he is willing to take a $50M loss.

To be fair, "tear down your opponent" has been the primary theme of election seasons for a long time. Well, in campaigns ads, anyway; I don't know if that holds for conventions.

Our election circuses are incredibly destructive.

Donald may be running for President but Paleo-Conservative Mike Pence will be doing the work should Donald win.

One day this past May, Donald Trump’s eldest son, Donald Trump Jr., reached out to a senior adviser to Gov. John Kasich of Ohio, who left the presidential race just a few weeks before. As a candidate, Kasich declared in March that Trump was “really not prepared to be president of the United States,” and the following month he took the highly unusual step of coordinating with his rival Senator Ted Cruz in an effort to deny Trump the nomination. But according to the Kasich adviser (who spoke only under the condition that he not be named), Donald Jr. wanted to make him an offer nonetheless: Did he have any interest in being the most powerful vice president in history?

When Kasich’s adviser asked how this would be the case, Donald Jr. explained that his father’s vice president would be in charge of domestic and foreign policy.

Then what, the adviser asked, would Trump be in charge of?

“Making America great again” was the casual reply.

Standard tactic.
I was briefly listening to Sean Hannity's radio show one day last week. He had three or four guests on and asked one if he would prosecute Hillary if he were in charge. The man responded that he would need to personally examine all of the evidence himself before he could reasonably answer the question. Hannity cut him off and asked the next guest the same question so fast there was almost a sonic boom. The desired answer was "Yes! Yes! Burn the witch!" and he was determined to get it.
